High Density Hard Drives

Hi,

I'm refreshing myself about hard drives, and need some memory refresh from you guys that are more up-to-date than me.

About some time ago (2 years?) there was the knowledge that hard drive technology was reaching it's limits. Something about the way that data was stored and retrieved, that was at a point where storage consistency was reaching a physical limit.

At the time, I remember something about a new way of organizing data, that would allow better data consistency and so bigger capacities.

Until know, I was, for that reason, very reluctant about going for a 1Tb disk. Nowadays, probably that problem was surpassed, and there are no problem getting a full 1Tb disk.

Am I right? Are those limitations solved by now? (I believe so, or there were no 1Tb and 1.5Tb disks available).

Can anyone refresh me about the name of the way-data-was-stored and the new method of storing it? (This was a complicated question ... even I don't fully understand what I'm asking for 😀 lol)

Perpendicular Recording ... thats it! 😀 What was the previous one? Parallel Recording or something like that?
