High CPU Usage

Everynow and then my CPU usage gets pegged around 60% and it will stay that way until I shut down my computer or go into Task Manager and shut down the culprit. Its always the program iexplore.exe There is always 2 of them showing with one showing roughly 50% usage. Is this Internet Explorer? What is causing this? It keeps on running even when Explorer is shut down. I know this happens because my fans start running fast and keep running until I shut down the application. Just wondering whats up. Worry I have some virus or something.
 
Yes running updated virus and spyware. XP is up to date. Started happening several months ago and have never figured out what trigers it. Wonder if its getting time for a clean install?
