High CPU Usage

I have a Fuji laptop and this issue only has come up within the last 6 months.

I usually play Winamp, and most of the time, everything will run flawlessly.

Sometimes, however, I'll get high explorer.exe cpu utilization (11%, normally 0-1%), and it will cause Winamp to skip during the song.

I've ended the explorer.exe process, but it takes out the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, and I obviously need it.

Any suggestions?

you can still operate without the taskbar if you use kb shortcuts.

obviously this isn't a fix, but just in case you didn't know.

have you done scans [avirus/adware]?

hey whats the specs on your laptop? about 3 years ago i bought a brand new HP (at the time) laptop and used it for music while im traveling (on the train/subway, on my way to college... blah blah); i noticed when it wasnt plugged in, it would occasionally do what you described. what i did to solve the problem was tweak the way how the laptop uses its resources while its unplugged = it worked... its a laptop.. to get more life out of the battery when its unplugged, it will automatically power down and lower usage of devices. but when its plugged it, it will have a different hardware profile enabled to allow maximum results from your rig ( i had mine run the fans NON stopped when plugged in= i hoped for better kooling) . of course there could be another issue causing your problem and i hope i was able to help and didnt confuse anyone :-}

Did the AV, Spyware clean, no dice.

My Specs:
S1030 (I think)
1Ghz P3
512 PC133 (shared w/ video)
30GB Hdd
802.11b built in

I need my taskbar b/c of the windows I use (MS Word Docs) and plus I'm so used to it.

I've had the same setup as the day I got it. It's never had a problem with CPU usage in the first 2 years I got it. I've reformatted, and it still comes back.
