High choke when playing CS:Source

I've been playing a lot of CS:Source lately, and have noticed that I have fairly high choke while playing. Sometimes during gameplay it will get as high as 80 or so, so I'd like to know if anyone has any suggestions to reduce this. It does tend to get a little laggy at times, and I suspect this is the cause. This is a new system, specs are below.

A64 3200+
1 gig Corsair memory
Leadtek 6600GT

Running at 1280x1024, left the suggested video settings alone.

Thanks!

i sometimes get a lot of choke when playing Day of Defeat. i have all the right ports forwarded too. i think it might because of our internet line quality. maybe the wires outside our house are loose or something.

If it's 80, then I wouldnt worry about it at all...

No, I mean choke. If you turn on the netgraph you will see your statistics. Just go into console and type net_graph 3 . This will show your fps, loss, and choke.

Those are wacky console commands I'm not a l337 h4x0r like you. 😉
You learn something new everyday, this was the second thing I learned today

It sounds like your rates are too high for your connection/computer.

Try lowering cl_rate and cl_maxupdaterate

I believe the command is cl_cmdrate (default is 20, ideal is 50-100). I'd try other servers before you adjust the setting lower though. If you're seeing an 80 choke then you're on a bad server more than likely.

The key is setting rate to max (25000), cmdrate and update rate to between 50-100 (varies per server) and matching that number to fpsmax. My current is 64.
