HIDs, should car manufacturers stop putting them on cars?

They don't bother me and since my car comes with them I can see the road a lot better with them. Even though they seem to bother some people I don't think they're enough of a problem to be a safety hazard and be banned. I think cars/trucks with misaligned or driving with their highbeams pose more of a risk than HIDs.

The HID lights are fine if properly adjusted. Some people just like to bitch about anything. They're FAR easier on the eyes than all of the old bats that drive around with their high beams on.

I like HIDs, I find them actually easier to see past than standard halogens. The yellow just seems to glare more.

I want an HID conversion on my car but I can't afford it right now.

Precisely. Factory HID lighting is great all-around.

I drive a fairly low slung car (dodge intrepid), and especially when luxury suvs come up from behind (cayenne, escalade, etc), or approach from the front, I always get blinded by their HIDs. This happens practically every time (I've been conscious to check and compare every HID equipped car I encounter), so I'm sure it isn't just an adjustment/dirt problem. Even properly adjusted HIDs are significantly more disturbing to me than someone driving with (halogen) high beams on. I've driven enough cars with HIDs installed to know what an improvement they are, and I want to give them the benefit of doubt, but given the number of people with sensitive eyes such as myself, they are a liability and a disservice to your fellow drivers. This is why I will avoid buying a car with HIDs as long as possible. I do think they will become standard eventually, and I'm not excited about that.

HID's are fine. It's the jackasses that drive around in perfectly clear conditions with their foglights blazing down my rearview mirror that kill me.

Ford trucks and pontiacs are some of the worst. Their foglights are the size of softballs. Combine that with a raised ride height and it just sucks.

Question for those of you who take issue with being blinded:

Do you have an auto-dmming rearview mirror or a standard one?

My rear view does autodim, but my side mirrors do not.

I'll never own another car that doesn't have an autodim mirror.

every car isn't designed at the same ride height. therefore glare is always caused from big trucks. Yea honestly i've seen those big trucks coming at me and they do get distracting but not much. Just keep your high beams off. A lot of the older cars that get into accidents are never adjusted back to proper alignement.

I'm a firm supporter in HIDs. i dont have them in my car but i've driven plenty and enjoy them.

HID kits are illegal to sell for street driving but you can do anything for off-road usage and show cars which are the reasons why they are selling now.

I too get quite annoyed by the HID glare from large SUVs. Since my Accord doesn't have an auto-dim mirror, I sometimes have to resort to leaning forward a bit in my seat so as not to get blinded by glare (definitely annoying on morning drives to school). Halogen headlights (even on trucks) seem to cause a lot less glare, at least in my rearview mirror.

My car has HIDs, so no I don't want them gone... or else I'd have no headlights :Q!

almost all HID cars come with some type of self leveling now. But not when they first came out tho...

oh i dont have auto dimming but i do have 15% tint in the rear... still gets me.

Have all the HIDs you want...

What we need is summary execution for any asshole with misaligned headlights. There's no excuse for that.

I've never been blinded by a HID. Quite suprising, considering that my car puts me eye level with most sedan door handles.

dunno, maybe it is because of the mis-ajusted, but my car puts my head/mirrors really really low, so if they're ajusted to the ground(headlights), they still blind me. but then any headlights do that. the HID's do it even more since its a really concentrated in one spot. imagine a ride height of around 4ish feet high
