Hide your IP with torrents?

If you change your IP address you can conceal your IP. This way you remain hidden. There are no systems out there that can detect this.

What would be the main reason of doing this, though? And would this confuse my internet provider (sorry, I'm a newb.).
Wouldn't it confuse Demonoid, as well?

lol.. spidey thats mean.

Spidey's jerking you around a bit because a lot of professional folks frequent these forums and they don't appreciate the idea of pirating software.

The answer is that you can't hide your IP address, period. For their computers to connect to yours, and vice versa, they have to know your IP address.

That's why the most successful way to catch these guys is simply to make a high volume file available, like the latest song or newest movie, then record IP addresses that download it from you.

The only way to keep from getting caught is not to do it. That would be my suggestion.

What do you mean: "You can't hide your IP address"???

My IP is 192.168.100.100, they do not know it.

A lot of protocols contain the IP address in the application layer. I think P2P does this a lot as well.

You won't be able to conceal your IP address. But you may look into something like PeerGuardian Basically it's a program that downloads a database of IP's it thinks are the 'bad guys'

I haven't used this program in a long time and I can't vouch how well it runs or how many geniune IP's this thing blocks. You might have to turn it on and off if you notice problems with your internet connection after using this.

Do the majority of torrent users even do anything about their IPs, though? Can I just DL without risking anything?

What type of Risk are you talking about?

If you are concern, about being found /identify.

The whole trust of this Thread is to let you know that there is No real anonymity on the Internet. Most of the answers that you got can be classified as ?Pulling your Leg?.

The Internet IP is not up to you to choose, your ISP is the one that gives you the Internet IP they always know When and Where it goes, and they have to disclose the info if the court order so.

well you could spoof your ip... but that defeats the idea of torrenting because its a very one way connection.

You can spoof your External ISP provided IP and maintain a normal Internet connection????

I don't know if this is any beneficial. I'm usually using demonoid, should I conceal my IP? If so, how?

Your IP is how services on the Internet communicate you, concealing it would cut you off from everything. What you're asking is like wanting to be mailed a package but not wanting to give out your address.

Possibly if it's within the same range as the network that you're on.

You cant totally hide. They have to send the webpage info to your computer (That is how the Internet works). There is also reverse DNS lookup. Dont kid yourself. You may be able to hide your exact network IP. Outsiders should still be able to see your router or cable modem or however you connect to the Internet. If not you would probably be breaking the law. This does not mean that you can not drop and pick back up a different IP periodically from your ISP depending on what their policy is.

There are things you can do to prohibit certain kinds of communications like PING requests. Most routers with firewalls can do that.

There are some other things you could do like putting your router/cable/dsl/modem on a separate power strip and turning them off when you go to sleep. A personal Firewall might help also. If your ISP has a proxy server you might try using that. It would be nice if every time you turned your Modem back on you would connect to different IP Number. A static IP is just too easy of a target.
