I thought I remember reading somewhere that its now possible to hide games on steam.
My library is starting to get cluttered I'd like to hide the games I never play to clean it up. Thanks guys & girl.

You can show only installed games, so just uninstall everything you're not going to play. Never heard of the hide option.

Though Google brought this up:
Simply open your Steam library, then right-click on the game you want to hide and select Set Categories. In the pop-up menu that appears, check the box next to "Hide this game in my library," then click OK. Boom! That's it. The game is now banished from your Steam Library.

cool, I didn't know about that option (either it wasn't there when I checked or I missed it).

What I do is I created a category named 'Played games', and once I finish a game I set its category to that, and have that category minimized.

You missed it. Installed games as a category to show has been around for a long time. I use it, and it's great.

Although sometimes I forget what I own.

Holy sh*t! My prayers have FINALLY been answered!!

If you read the google-linked article JTsyo provided (thank you! thank you! thank you!)....this is a very new feature:

"It's happened. It's finally happened. After years of pleas, begging, and cajoling from PC gamers, Valve has at long last added the ability to hide games in your Steam library in a recent update."

That's the first sentence. Article dated in August.

I've bitched about this for years on this forum. Many of you have told me to piss off and quit crying. I finally will!

What I do is place all the games I no longer play into a "DONE" category. I still do this despite the hide game feature. There's less clicks to find a game if I change my mind.

Hey look at that, another feature that Steam should have had a decade ago that they only added after Origin did it first.

steam has had sorting filters for ages. ex: recently played, installed, favorited, etc.

How about hiding a game, which is what the subject is? How long have they had that ability?

  • add all your games to favorite.
  • select games you dont want to see, rmb unfavorite.
  • set filter to display only favorite games.
profit

available since 2007 at least(didnt own it before then). same effect as hiding just requires an extra step beforehand.

Now click on show large icons view. Or the icon grid view. Boom. Nothing is hidden anymore.

Just make a category called ZZZ DO NOT PLAY and stick everything you dont like in there. It will be at the bottom of your list.

nope. works correctly for me on desktop and laptop. you are doing something wrong.

the search bar on the upper left has text to the right of it that says 'games'. click on it and a pulldown will list the options. once you select favorites the filter applies to all view modes:grid/detail/list

With nearly 500 games my strategy so far has simply been to order my list by installed/uninstalled and then favourite games I want to play reguarly or singleplayers I've yet to play. Then you can minimize the non-faves and simply swap games in/out.

The categories has been around for a while which allows you to dynamically create and assign categories which is probably more powerful, I've just not got around to that yet. It's a good thing they're adding tools for users to handle large game libraries though, without them managing nearly 500 games would be impossible.

You're correct. I didn't realize that "favorites" was different than a category named "favorites". I thought you were talking about categories.
