Hey all, I've got a problem. I've never been a racer but I was practically given a thrustmaster gt wheel (usb connection).

OS Windows XP 32 sp3

Everything works with windows plug and play drivers except the force feedback.

I downloaded the drivers from Thrustmaster but I can't update the drivers from the plug and play drivers that comes with windows xp.

I tried using the wizard as well as telling it where to look but nothing works, the ok button is greyed out.

If I uninstall the drivers then the device isn't found until I unplug it and plug it back in. When I plug it back in I have the microsoft drivers again.

I'm thinking,(read danger Will Robinson) If I remove the files hidclass, hidparse and hidusb from windows would I then be able to intall the thrustmaster drivers or would it screw up something else?

Any other options? I'd really like to try the force feedback feature.

Thanks, Jim

USB mouse and USB keyboard use those files, so if you delete them you may not have the ability to install anything.

Boot to safe mode and try the installer.

Thank you for the suggestion but unfortunately it didn't work for me.

I went into safe mode (saw it in the corners) tried both the install wizard as well as telling it where to look.

The wizard tells me no better drivers are found and manually when I get to the thrustmaster INF file and hit OK I immediately get a boomp sound and that's as far as it will go.

I'm still stuck with the microsoft drivers.

Any idea where I might have gone wrong?

Thanks, Jim

My bad I should have specified, I have the thrustmaster gt 2 in 1 rumble force wheel.

I believe I've already downloaded the correct drivers for the rumble wheel (Package 2009_FFD_2)

Is it possible to remove the windows plug and play drivers?
or is there an option somewhere to prevent windows drivers taking precedence?

Thanks, Jim

You are not installing USB drivers, you are installing the program software itself. The instructions clearly state that the device be disconnected during the software installation and not connected to an XP USB port until after you reboot, following the software installation. The wheel uses the native XP USB drivers. I suggest you start from scratch; disconnect the wheel from the XP USB port, uninstall all Thrustmaster software, reboot, then follow the Thrustmaster instructions exactly:

INSTALLATION FOR PC

System requirements: PC (Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, XP) equipped with USB port.

The CD-ROM included with this product allows you to install the Vibrations Feedback drivers. (The executable you downloaded is the same as the CD-ROM)

1. Insert the installation CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the
Vibrations Feedback drivers. Once the installation is complete, click Finish and restart your computer.

2. Once your computer has restarted, connect the wheel's USB connector to one of your computer’s USB
ports. Windows 98/Me/2000/XP will automatically detect the new device.

3. Driver installation:

Windows Me/2000/XP: the USB drivers are installed automatically.

4. Select Start/All Programs/Thrustmaster/Force Feedback driver/Control Panel. The Game
Controllers dialog box displays the gamepad’s name with OK status.

5. In the Control Panel, click Properties to configure your gamepad:

• Test device: to test and visualize the buttons, D-pad and 3 axes (wheel, brake and gas pedals).
• Test forces: to test 8 Force effects and configure the Vibrations Feedback settings (2 possible
settings: from 0 to 150 % : Forces Main and Static).

I thought I followed the directions the first time.

I followed your advice and uninstalled the thrustmaster program and rebooted and reinstalled following the directions again.

I do not have a disk (the directions say the download is the same) I do not get an option nor can I find and option to download the drivers prior to reboot.

After reboot I have the thrustmaster controller but no option to test force feedback that I can find.

When I check the drivers for the usb that connects the rumble wheel I have microsoft drivers version 5.1.2600.5512 driver date: 7/01/2001

I am still unable to update the drivers for the usb port that connects the rumble wheel.

I'll try again it's probably user error.

Thanks, Jim
