The next time you get hiccups, get a tissue paper, place it on your tongue (to get a better grip) and gently pull your tongue in a quick jerking motion. You'll feel weird for a second, but your hiccups will be gone.

Hey that didn't work and now I have tissue all over my tongue.Seriously that fvcking worked. If I had a vid camera I would have recorded the progress.
Other solutions I've tried:
1. Rubbing back of throat with thumb
2. Drinking upside down
3. Having the evil woman scare me
4. holding breath
5. A couple others
Thank you. OMFG thank you. I've had them for 30+ minutes which makes me feel even sorrier for that poor bastard that has had them for 10+ years.
It still doesn't answer my question though.

Glad I could help... Just be sure to pass on that "solution".
I think carbonated drinks cause hiccups -- although, to answer your question specifically... A hiccup, by definition is "a spasm of the diaphragm resulting in a rapid, involuntary inhalation that is stopped by the sudden closure of the glottis and accompanied by a sharp, distinctive sound" -- so I'm guessing, that drinking causes you to relax and thus engages your body's involuntary movements (spasms). Of course, I'm not a doctor and that's just an edumacated guess.![]()
