Hello,
I've been browsing a lot of different apple related forums for a while now and really liked the atmosphere of this one. People seem more respectful and generally helpful here, so I decided to register.
In any case, I just wanted to share a bit of my hackintosh success. I decided to build a new PC after my old P4 fried on me. Unknowingly, I purchased hardware that was very compatible with leopard. (I'm not exactly new to the hackintosh scene; I started around 10.4.8 and played around with it for quite a while, but I ultimately abandoned it because of the annoyances and incompatibilites with using a heavily patched system.) My new setup boots vanilla leopard using the boot-132 method (best way imho) to ensure complete hands off of the apple supplied kexts.
Hardware of Interest:
C2Q Q9300 @ 3.0 GHz (stock voltage)
DFI DK series X48-T2RS
8 GB RAM
GeForce 8800GT 512MB
Leopard booted and installed straight from the retail disc after swapping from my boot-132 cd. I switched over to a USB bootable version of boot-132 to make things nicer. Apple updates have always worked 100%. Post install I simply used EFI Studio to add the necessary strings for full 8800GT support. The ALC885 audio needed a small injector application and codec file to get working, but it only required dragging and dropping one file to another. Everything else has worked out of the box.
After using leopard now for almost a couple months on this hackintosh, I have experienced zero crashes, zero bugs, zero problems in general. It is rediculously fast too. As of now, I pretty much never boot back into XP unless I feel like playing a game.
