But with intelligence and a good sense of humor, its easy to gain the respect of most of the people on this forum.

Who were you before you were banned?

Oh yeah, welcome back lager. How long before we trade Manny for ARod, & send Nomar to SD? ;)

Trade Manny. I have never seen such a lazy left fielder in my life. He is just an overpaid DH with offense. I would take A-Rod anyday over Manny. Manny is good, but does not try hard enough like A-Rod.

Nomar is going to Anaheim, but I think Manny will be with us next year because nobody wants him. :(

Roger that. Come to think of it, he's probably feeling a bit self-conscious even now..

  • Greetings and salutations.

Now for a quick tour of this place. Whether you'll be like some of our residents and living here on a permanent basis (Don't some of you ever SLEEP?) or just passing through every now and again you should have a rundown of the basic demographics of this place.

First is geography. Since the server is situated in the land of the free and tolerant, the USA, most politics and opinions expressed here reflect those of the wired population of that country and the continent attached to it. Of course the unwired occasionally show up too, we're still not sure how. Best bet says telepathy. The vernacular is common north american english as written at a grade two to three level, with only the usual net-based dialects incorporated. Politics, news and entertainment are those derived from that part of the world, though the odd global report does make its way on here. Word is that they're trying to fix that.

Well, that sets you up with where you are, might as well learn about who you'll be stuck with here. And, well, it is an eccentric bunch.

The majority are your average computer users. Diverse backgrounds, all kinds of attitudes, and usually there is someone who knows just about anything. Well, and a dozen or more others claiming to. Depending on topic. It's fairly easy going, and the rules aren't too difficult to pick up. That's why the FAQ and Help sections exist. Though if you don't, don't worry. From some of the posts around here, most people don't.

That's just general knowledge, of course, and can be found at any other internet forum. Anandtech, though, tends to have lots of cliques and little groups. It's these that make things interesting. Come, let's take a quick tour through the menagerie that is the offtopic forum.

Over here we have the geeks. As someone possessed of boobies, you should be careful around them. They tend to drool and secrete other fluids in the presence of those. Sponges are good to carry around. Often you'll find these people in the YA*T where the * is G = girl, C = car, BW = Butter Worship, SUV = Sh!ty Useless Vehicles, etc., and the rest stands for Yet Another * Thread. On the whole, fairly harmless.

Not quite so harmless are the flamers. Often mistaken for broken gangsta-rap records for the volume of their arguments, the repetitive nature of what's said, and the sheer vulgarity that spews forth, these members are... well, fvcking annoying. Whatever you do, never argue with these people. They'll just pull you down to their level and beat you with their experience. At least you hope that's their... experience. Most controversial threads have at least one flamer. Thus are balance and harmony (and discord) maintained. It's sometimes hard to remember this in the bulk of the flamewars that all of the hassle and pain is generally caused by one or two highly-motivated, caustic twits. This way, now.

Pause and listen for a second. Here that low, rhythmic thumping? That's the subgroup known as Christiantech. They make themselves readily apparent, usually with one or two of the more vocal members, in anything remotely having to do with religion, belief, ethnics, abortion, free speech, god(s), G-d, abortion, or really any matter which invisible beings might be related to. Differentiated from the Flamers by using Holy Books as their central platform.

For the end of our tour, you'll note the cage with the iron bars and the pet door on the front. Please pay heed to the sign and Don't Feed the Trolls. Really, why we keep some of those around here is beyond me. They seem to be naturally drawn to the same threads as those from Christiantech. Common ancestor you think?

Anyway, that about does it for now. Welcome, hope you have a good time, and mind the thread crapping, er, troll droppings, on your way out.

Oh, and parting words. It's all about the post count.
