I don't think this drive is a Lite-On. Hival specifies writing speeds as low as 1x, and last time I checked, Lite-On drives can only write at 8x at the slowest. Someone correct me if I'm wrong? :)

The 24x10x40 Hi-val I got from Officemax a month ago was a Liteon, but Hival uses several kinds of drives so it could be something else too.

BTW, the Liteon works great.

Becareful if you want a Liteon..I ppicked one up at Compusa and it was a "newer" HiVal..it was an AOpen 241040 made in Nov 2001....exchanged and got a box with no Nero logo on the front and this one had a Liteon it dated Sept 2001...So I think HiVal has switched to Aopen....

Buslink use Liteon drives at BB...the box refers to Smart burn technology...

HiVal box on the Liteon just said there was a bufferunderun protection..not Smartburn(liteon) or burnproof(Aopen)

Do not get me wrong..Aopen is a nice drive...but the liteon IMHO is the better drive

LOL, I wish all rebates were done that way.

Looking at the pic on the front of the box, I thought that it would have been an Acer... Glad to find out that it's not.

buffer underrun protection is the same thing as burn proof to my knowledge ;)

Stick with the Yamaha - they kick ass!

just check the top of the drive.. alot of companies that rebadge this stuff and sell under their label dont take the time to change the sticker on the drive that shows the actual manufacturer...
