My cousin just asked me a question I couldn't answer. He has the Dell 20" 2001FP LCD and it died. I have a 17" CRT he can borrow, but it's not going to work at the resolution of the Dell! If you hook up the CRT, when it gets in Windows the screen of course will be scrambled. I tried on my PC to change the res settings in safe mode, and they didn't take! If that would have worked, he could simply start in safe mode, change the res to 1024x768, restart and he's set. No so. I changed mine to 800x600, and I had to go to the "monitor" tab to set the refresh to "default" so the res would change, it did, I restarted and I was back at 1152x864. There's got to be another method.

So how is someone supposed to use the 17" monitor in this case?
Thanks.

Boot into safe mode and uninstall the drivers. Reinstall at the next boot. (should run at 640x480 then or was it 800x600 in xp...)

Thanks. Hoo boy. That's going to be a huge "undertaking" for him since he's using an AIW 9800 Pro. That's a ton of drivers and software, and settings.
