Hello there. Im looking to buy wireless networking for 2 desktop computers and 1 laptop.
We have high speed cable internet service. The two desktop computers are running windows 98se and
the laptop is running windows NT. They are all within 20 feet of eachother.

Any suggestions on a router as well as network cards for the two desktops and one for the laptop?
Also, will my network settings be messed up if i have a standard ethernet card in my case as well. At school
we use a physical line, but when i bring it home id like to use the wireless network.

Thanks so much for the help,
mousey

Conventional Wisdom* claims that the combination Orinoco Gold (About $90) SMC Wireless Router (About $150) yield the best results.

This link:
ORiNOCO PC Card - Gold.

There are no real big differences between the entry level Routers.

As can be seen in this link:

Wireless Routers Compared

When it comes to Wireless your mileage may varied, there are too many environmental variables that are unique to each individual setting.

I use only Cisco gear, but it is more expensive than it needs to be.
Around here it seems everyone is thrilled by the Orinco stuff, but Ihave never tried that brand.

Check it out.

The SMC wireless router (7004AWBR) has been quite good, at least for me, and the documentation is great. I use the SMC 2632W wireless cards, and they work fine in my setup, but I got them before I researched this forum for opinions; I'll defer to those who recommend the Orinoco. BTW, the Orinocos are about the only cards that work with Windows XP right now, so that may make a difference to you.
