Hi, I'm a shoplifting dirtbag.

I just went to Long's drug store and bought some things I needed. When I left the alarm went off. The guy near the door asks me to step back in. He went through my packages, checked my receipt and asked me to step through again. The alarm sounded again.

I'm staring at him like "WTF" about to tell him to bite it when another, less logical cashier/cart monkey comes over and ups the "you're a dirtbag shoplifter" ante. I finally relent and ask for the manager, go to his office, where I'm standing there with these two guys and him. He politely asks to search me, which I consent to, just to prove they're assholes. I look to see if a sensor tag is stuck to my shoe or something, but it's clean.

At this point they're looking at me like I have a bottle of tylenol stuffed up my ass. I ask to use the bathroom to figure this out. I'm sure they're thinking I'm trying desperately to crap this bottle of stolen tylenol out. After looking *everywhere* on me I notice a small blue tag sewn into the inside of my new jeans, not unlike a "care and use" tag. It says in small letters "remove before wearing." Sure enough- Banana Replublic is now sewing these tags into their clothes and not even deactivating them for mail order customers. I received my mail order from them a few days ago- there is *nothing* to indicate they ship their clothes like this in the packaging. After showing it to the manager and cutting it off I went on my merry way, both of us apologizing.

C*cksuckers. I should get a lawyer and sue them rotten. This would have been a funny story had it not happened to me, so I thought I'd pass it along. 🙂

Complain furiously to Banana Republic. Maybe they'll try to make it up to you by sending you a free gift certificate.

ouch...I have a few of those still in my clothes...Club Monaco or something I think...never triggered an alarm before.

Glad you didn't get a cavity search 🙂

my rule is that if I didn't steal anything, I don't stop for the alarm. What can they do?

Nothing. I never stop for the bag checkers at exits. If something beeps I keep walking.

My understanding of Missouri law is, that if they stop me, they've made an arrest (citizen's arrest I suppose) and they HAVE to contact the police. There are some nice liabilities under those laws as well, to discourage use of citizen's arrest. Plus, pretty much everywhere, it is illegal for them to touch you. One hand on the shoulder could be an assault 😛 Most of the stores seem to know this, and don't want to have employees leading them into 10M lawsuites.

Just remeber, you are under no obligation to stop becauase something starts beeping at you

I go to this place all the time, I didn't want them to presume I walked out of there with something, or else they'd probably follow me around the next time. I also wanted the gratification of making them feel like asses for their initial behavior.

I never stop for those door alarms. At most I hold my receipt up in the air as I walk away. Those door alarms are so bad that the courts ruled some years back that customers don't have to stop and that store security cannot detain anyone who sets off a door alarm unless they have some other reason (besides the door alarm) to suspect them as a shoplifter.
Hell, I used to have a work security pass that would set those things off. Very annoying.

Sorry you went through that, iwearnosox. Just reaffirms to me why I never stop for those things.

Bah, I just keep walking. I know I didn't steal anything, I don't have to prove it. I got one of those reciept checker guys at Frys all pissed off because I wouldn't let him look at my stuff. I paid for it, it's mine. You have no right to go though my stuff.

I never stop at those anymore I just keep on walking. Its not like they're gonna run after you yelling.
