I have the 802.11b Microsoft wireless router, not listed in there so I dunno what type of connector it has. 🙁
 
Any one know if one could retro-fir, or modify a netgear wgr614 v4 to use this? From what I read the WGR614 doesn't have a removable antenna, which blows.

If there is little chance of modifying this netgear router, anyone wnat to buy/trade it for one that is compatable with a reverse SMA?

You can mod it fairly easily... You just need to get the right kind of connector, open it up, and do some soldering.
 
I picked up one of these last week for use with my D-Link 614+ (b) router. It didn't increase the signal strength that much as a percentage, but I'm now able to get a much more stable signal at the far end of the house and on the 2nd floor (router on first floor). Worth the $10 for me.
 
the directional antennas are better if the signal can be sent in one direction
the more directional the more signal
omni is not omni - but more like a donut with out a hole
that's why some have two antennas you can point one down to go up or down a floor.

cantennas have to really be pointed where you want
 
i was reading a review of this on NewEgg(where it's also listed) and somebody said they replaced the antenna on their Wireless PCI card with this...

I have a Netgear 814(version2) without a removeable antenna, so would it be beneficial to replace the antenna on my wireless PCI card with this? I can just barely catch the signal from my router(it's in another building) do you think this would help?

PCI antennas are rarely above 2dBi, so this should be 3x's as sensitive (though they usually over-rate WiFi antennas). This should improve your reception.

Thanks egeekial. Any pointers on where to find info on this? Where to get connector, and how difficult it is to solder/easy it is to fry?
 
Apparently, Newegg carries the same product and says it comes with a TNC adapter. Doesn't that mean it should work with Linksys?

Looking into this at newegg, the cost is $4 more, but shipping is $1 less and for most of us there is no tax at newegg, so it would really only be about $1.50 more at new egg. No thread crapping, just something to think about if you like Newegg. And thanks for the deal OP, I have been looking for something like this.

 
I have Linksys wireless equipment, one of my computers was getting a poor signal so I bought a D-Link directional antena which has a cable of about 3 feet, and now I get a great signal. I got a 90% boost with it.
 
i bought this same antenna from newegg last week. don't know the technical terms, but it does come with a little adapter thingy. my pci card had a removable antenna with one of the small connecters so it worked fine as is, but the adapter lets you put it on something with a larger connector. when using it on my router, i didn't notice a huge difference, but sticking it on my pci card made a HUGE difference. i only live in an apartment, but my card would usually grab a low signal from my router. with the antenna, it's always very good or excellent.

the antenna is a little bulky compared to others i've seen, but i would highly recommend it if you have a pci card with removable antenna.
 
This is a hot deal, especially compared to the 4db D-Link omnidirectional I picked up from CompUSA for $10+tax AR. I need enough of an increase in signal strength to pick up the signal upstairs when the router is downstairs in my house. The D-Link antenna helped with reception up here connecting it to the Wireless NIC. I'm hoping this will help with being able to boost the signal strength on the router enough to keep it downstairs.
 
The radiation pattern of omni-directional antennas is like a donut, as described in an earlier post. The higher the dBi of the omni-directional antenna, the flatter the donut gets until it becomes a pancake. That means you get better reception in the horizontal plane, but worse reception above and below.

There also is some signal loss with the cable that comes with these aftermarket antennas. But if having that length of cable means you can move the antenna of your PCI card from underneath your desk to a better location, then it's definitely worth it.

Fry's has had omni and directional antennas on sale for $4.99-$9.99 (with and without rebate) quite a few times in the past. Although the brands vary, they all seem to be based on the same few OEM designs.
 
Just as a followup. Ordered from microcenter at 6pm Wed. Item was delivered by 5pm the next day. Great service from Microcenter. Too bad the rebate is gonna take like 15 years 😀
 
Went and picked this one up in store (same price as on web). Plugged it into my DLink DI-624 802.11G router and it works like a charm.

In my home I like working in the living room (other side of my home away from the office where the router is at). In the past at best I was getting a connection rating of "Poor" with yellow bars and a max Tx rate of 11Mb/s. Now with this antenna I am getting all most all green bars with a raiting of "good" and a max Tx of 36Mb/s.

Very pleased with this, its exactly what i wanted and not bad even for $19.00 before rebate. Thanks Quasi for the heads up!

I didn't even know about this deal until you posted. Luckily I am in a location where there is a BM Microcenter.
