Well, its that time! My 17" Dell Trinitron 1025htx is not cutting it anymore.
I am looking for a quality monitor for $600 and under. Doesnt have to be $600 but nothing more. I deffinitely want a visibly flat screen but i am not sure really where to start. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Anything silver or black is also appreciated, although color really doesnt matter. Nothing under 19" would be preferred also. Again, i know this is probably a common question, but i am looking for something that has a nice refresh rate and something that i would be impressed with. :) Any help is appreciated.

Thanks very much.

600 is a nice budget solely for a monitor. Check out the usual suspects: Samsung, Viewsonic and Sony. If you skimp on quality a bit, you might even find room to buy a decent 21" instead of a 19.

Chad, where can you buy an Iiyama monitor online? I might be interested in one like the one you linked in a 19" model.

When you say "Hi-End", what do you really mean. I assume that since you have a limit of $600 that you don't really mean hi-end like Barco.

Yeah hehe. I was thinking of putting something to eliminate a question like that hehe, i think i probably should. I just mean something of high quality, not a 21" monitor that isnt so great for around $600. I dont need anything extreme, but something that isnt the lowend of 19" or 21". Not sure how i would put it better. Something thats high quality within the $600 range.

Sorry bout that.

I haven't actually seen them in action, but Mitsubishi very recently introduced two new CRT monitors--Diamond Pro 930 SB (19-inch) and the Diamond Pro DP2070 SB (22-inch).

there are a LOT of options out there. In terms of 19 inchers, there is all ways the iiyama that the previous poster mentioned--and I can't disagree with him... its a GREAT monitor. For me, it was a bit pricey (I didn't have the $$$ you have)--so I bought a Sony G420S, and I couldn't be happier. FLAT Trinitron screen and will run 1600x1200 at 85Hz (that's important... look for something that can run 1600x1200 at 80+ Hz) and has good color definition and (in my opinion) a great picture. It also has the side benefit of having two 15pin inputs (with a switch on the front)--which is great if you have two computers. There are multiple places that can get you the Sony shipped to your door for less than $400.

What operating system are you running? And what video card? I took my Samsung 955 and the new Sony and run them both with my ATI 8500. Two 19" monitors (in my opinion) is MUCH better than one 21" (of course, there will be some people who disagree). Its great to have all the desktop space for multitasking.

Anyhow, that's my two cents. Happy hunting!

FWIW, I have both a high-end, expensive Mitsubishi 19" and a low-end Samsung 19". The Mits is absolutely flat while the Samsung is a curved shadow-mask tube. I actually like the Samsung better and it was about half the price.

The point here is that sometimes what we think we want isn't as good as the "cheap" option. But there's no way of knowing until you see them yourself.

HokieESM: I am running windows 2000 and have the radeon 64mb vivo. Which i hate ;) Yeah i kind of prefer just one monitor, rather than 2, just my thing i guess. It sure would be nice to have 2, but i'd rather just have one in general.
Thanks for the help so far guys, looking into everything.
