Hi def hookup question

BUTCH1

Lifer
Hello, I just got my first Hi-Def TV, a "47 Philips LCD. My question is, does the cable co.
transmit Hi-Def signals on basic cable or are you required to get the box and go the
HDMI route?. I know local channels transmit OTA Hi-Def, why cant they just put these
on the cable instead of me buying an antenna. Thanks in advance for any help..

To receive high def channels from cable, you must get their box, and then run either component video cables or hdmi from the box to your tv.

I have a Samsung HDTV and I get HD channels without using the cable companys box. If your TV has a Qam tuner it should find the HD channels when you do a scan for channels on setup. I just have basic cable.

I did that too. It was so awesome I didn't think I could get the Local HD channels.

Thanks for the response guys, that's what I did, I found that my basic cable passes through
the local networks and includes their Hi-def as well (separate channel). I'm still gonna
get their box as I can't see paying $1490 to watch 4 or 5 hi-def channels, hopefully
History channel and some other good ones are included when I use the box/HDMI..

Honestly....DirectTV's offerings are about the only one I have seen that is worth it.

The rest have the usual fare....be careful what your spending your money on.
