err... the news just came out yesterday.. I don't know why you thought I was pointing to any previous numbers.
Well now that devs have ensured WoW will suck and made their judgment on current and future expansions to not allow flying, come to Haevensward! We got flying mounts!![]()
Flying mounts, evidently?Dannar, please.. don't even attempt to tell me what I liked and didn't like about WoW. -_-
ive said it before and ill say it again, lack of flying had nothing to do with the drop in subs
being able to fly would do nothing to change the fact that there isn't anything to do in the game besides raid.
Wait, what is the news? Are they going to get rid of flying in the old zones where it's allowed?
I loved the addition of flying, and I'm ok with not having it in new areas, but wouldn't want them to get rid of it in old areas.
And I play rift, where there is no flying and it makes sense in that game and players seem to strongly agree with no flying. Ports make it not much needed anyway.
I picked up playing WoW again this expansion to do some raiding with my old guild.
The only thing good left in the game is raiding at this point, otherwise it's been completely gutted and what has been added is complete garbage; see garrisons etc.
At this point they should stop developing new zones, adding levels etc. Just put out new raids a few times a year, add a new class every couple years and tweak classes every few years. Just focus on the last decent thing in the game.
Losing 30% of your subscription base in 3 months is telling. This game will be down to a million players 5 years from now is my guess. It's lost about 1 to 1.5 million a year since WOTLK. It sees sub spikes around xpac releases, but over time this is the consistent loss. The game needs to die off already, it's stale and played out and suffocates any other possible decent MMO from coming to the forefront.
Removing flying is in all likelihood a gambit to slow players down and drag out the meager amount of content they release as an expansion these days.
I like how you talk about 5 million players like its bad. In January, FFXIV settled at around 500,000. GW2 is estimated to be at 750,000-1,250,000 and it is the next most populated game next to WOW and at the same time is in decline. WOW is estimated to be around 7 million after 30% drop. It could drop a further 3/4 and still be able to compete with the best that's out there assuming no change in their numbers. They made more money just selling the latest expansion box than any of the other developers have seen over the life of their respective games.
While many would agree in the staleness of the game, the market simply doesn't agree that it's ready to die. What IS telling is that most active MMO players would rather play a stale version of WOW than what ever else is offered. It's not like the death of WOW will suddenly herald in a new era of MMO games. MMO technology in general is stale and it isn't Blizzard's fault. That said, it is amazing how much life they have managed to squeeze out of a game design that is over 15 years old. Blizzard is to the MMO what Apple is to the smartphone. Stale or not, people show up by the million to give them cash, and that ain't nothing.
At this point they should stop developing new zones, adding levels etc. Just put out new raids a few times a year, add a new class every couple years and tweak classes every few years. Just focus on the last decent thing in the game.
I have played/currently play more WoW then pretty much any active poster on this forum
