Havent played since 2010. But honestly I never got into WoW that much. Felt it was boring out of the gate. Played off and one for ~5 years. hard to believe it is over 10 years old now!

That's what I was saying back when there was like a whole year without a new raid instance (between TOGC and icecrown, 1 year with just helion dragon being added which was like a 3-4 day diversion). They put so much work into the leveling which lasts like 1-2 days and then you gotta wait a year for new raid? meh

They did great work with leveling, they really did. It is a shame that it seems like the game espouses building up multiple characters rather than adding much much more for one max level character to do. But I guess that's what the rep grinds, Farmville, garrisons, etc were all about. Too bad they just didn't make raids, huh?

I also didn't mind getting "keyed" for high end content. I think it made it so that you were eager/prepared for the content, rather than queueing up to do the same dull pug raid with your 5th toon.

I always thought they should have charged for the gryphon taxi service, and not exactly a nominal amount.

I think the problem with personal flying is that you can use it to completely skip whole portions of map and PVP and everything. Now, if players could target each other while in flight, that might be a bit different. You wouldn't be so eager to literally make yourself an obvious target flying overhead...

I've been thinking about getting back into the game...

WOW is still really special IMO. Most other games are so canned.

Flying mounts IMO were a huge mistake to add to the game. As well as giving each faction Paladin/Shaman. And stream lining it so much. Oh well.

I've been sucked back in once or twice, but it only lasted about two weeks each time. The game is so horribly dated at this point, and I don't have the time I used to.

I'd love to play classic WoW with a new engine and updated environment, but that's not going to happen.

I think the biggest problem is that between Vanilla and TBC, leveling went from an adventure (i.e. part of "the game") to just being an obstacle that was in the way of "the real game" (i.e. end-game raids or PVP). Heh, I still remember spending a lot of time between 55-60, because I was all worried that I'd have nothing to do once I hit max level. I think I was around 55 at 1/2005, but I didn't hit 60 until the next month. D:

Losing 30% of your subscription base in 3 months is telling.

Have any of you ever looked at the actual numbers when they are analyzed (google will show several places analyzing them)? While there is no "absolute" facts, almost all the people who look at it seem to state the same, 70% of player base was in gold farming countries, about 30% was figured to be actual players. The addition of WOW tokens and easy gold has been hard on the gold farming market. While I can agree its just guesses, I cant see it being to far off. How many of you still get spam for "blizzard account bans" that is a testament to how many are trying to make money off its player base in itself.

Wow's real problem, players don't play the same thing 10 years, no matter what you add. Now go to a noob zone, there are no noobs, just People geared with Heirlooms (old players, not new). There may be a new player or two, but WOW is pretty sad for a new player, you level so fast if you figure out how it plays that you maybe see 3-4 zones. If you go in a instance group its done so fast if you blink you miss it and if you want to "play/learn" a bit its all old players bitching non stop about how you don't know how to play. And that's if the group hasn't lost half the party because they are not at the end boss in 3 minutes or less.

its about an unfriendly a game as a NEW player will find, not because of the game, its been made (opinion) way to easy, but in the player base. Almost none have time to enjoy the game, its all about ME! how cool my Armour is, how many things i have , hoe much better I am then anybody else. hence how this whole thread started, "I" cant go faster so I quit!

I just got back after a few years away, game is simplistic now (dont like) leveling is ultra fast (70 was max when i left) made 100 last night after about 2 weeks of playing again (dont like, to fast). Missed more then 3/4 of last 2 expansions as i out leved them so fast (not good). But on the upside, I know understand why the Pokeman games where so huge ( I like pet battles) and also now get Facebook games and phone games, garrisons are kinda fun.. for now. Blizz has always been awesome at taking other peoples games and copying them in some way with more polish.

Good grief. WoW players have such self-centered attitudes toward the game. Everything is "CATER TO ME DAMMIT" in the WoW forums and "IF YOU DISAGREE WITH ME YOUR OPINIONS ARE WRONG."

Look, if you love flying so much, go play a flying game. It looks like WoW isn't going to have flying moving forward, so move along. If flying is so damn important to you, might I recommend Microsoft Flight Simulator as your next game?

Some people like flying, some people don't, Blizzard decided to cater to those who don't. Get over it.

That's why I like archeage... gliders and yes, a flying mount. But they're limited in duration for the most part and also strategic and usable for combat purposes. If you're just gliding along in a hostile area odds are you'll get shot down.

That and archeage's ship battles finally got good.

Flying mounts were only needed due to the poor design of the overall map and the incredibly terrible time it took to take a flight path.

Yeah back when BC came out flying was awesome and was a huge improvement to the game's overall fun. Just about the most fun I've ever had in any game was when I first got flight form on my druid, flying around Nagrand. If they designed new zones so that flying made them trivial or the game is so boring that they have to remove flying to force players into content, that is just bad design.

I think your missing the point, name one game that doesn't have artificial barriers to limit the player Character, so with your example they are all bad games. Levels are a barrier, why cant I just skip level 1-2-3-4-5 and do the end battle in all RTS's? RPG, why have levels at all, just a door that max levels me and goes to end boss. You need a way of artificially limiting a player, in WOW its the CON system, you are level 10 and there are level 50 mobs, you don't go there. BUT, if you chose to, you can maybe find a way through if your careful or have help. But flying eliminates that way of limiting a character, you just fly over it, skip it, no challenge, no skill, no nothing. It has nothing to do with boring content, how would you know it was boring if you didn't engage it, you just flew over it?

Now I think they need the old way of thinking, you level without flying on one character to max level and get your flight, any character after can chose to level as interned or skip and fly.

What are you talking about? Did you quote the wrong person?

Yes. All they had to do was make it so you could still be targeted & attacked while flying on your PERSONAL mount (not taxi service) by both players and mobs (ranged? or using nets or something?). And perhaps with a wider than usual draw radius so you could get whacked by a large gang of enemies attracted to you (highly visible overhead, after all). This would have prevented flying from decoupling players from the world/content as you would still have to be fully engaged and alert to threats while moving around.

That and they needed more content that actually incorporated flying as opposed to simply fly from point A to point B and collect 15 boar's asses. Make it instead cruise around killing flying monkeys and collecting their tails or something. And more areas only accessible by flying. I loved those floating islands in TBC savannah region, but they did literally nothing with them, just artsy placeholders. You could land there, walk around, but there was zero content to interact with.

sadly yes im pretty confident in that statement

It looks like I've only got about 700 days played total, so it's not impossible to beat me. I've certainly slacked off since WoW's first anniversary where I had a total of 120 days played. Yeah... I spent about an average of 8 hours per-day in game. 😱
