MONTGOMERY, Ala. — An Alabama law firm claims in a lawsuit that Taco Bell is using false advertising when it refers to using "seasoned ground beef" or "seasoned beef" in its products.

The meat mixture sold by Taco Bell restaurants contains binders and extenders and does not meet the minimum requirements set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to be labeled as "beef," according to the legal complaint.

The class-action lawsuit was filed Friday in federal court in the Central District of California by the Montgomery law firm Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles.

Attorney Dee Miles said attorneys had Taco Bell's "meat mixture" tested and found it contained less that 35 percent beef.

Probably the same thing they have been extending beef with for the last 50 years, soy.

It was common growing up poor to mix it in with the ground beef to make it feed more of us kids.

The lawsuit says that Taco Bell's "seasoned beef" contains other ingredients, including water, wheat oats, soy lecithin, maltodrextrin, anti-dusting agent and modified corn starch.

why complain about water?

the other stuff could be justified as anti caking agents or something in the seasoning. i guess the key in their defense would be 'seasoned beef'

Not when it's 65% other stuff. Then you've got beefed seasoning.

Holy shit...this should shutup the people in the recent Taco Smell thread.

If you feed your children this garbage more than once a month (we are all human, and it is tasty!) it is child abuse. Flat out.

Wasn't this the first ep of Cooking Master Boy?

No wonder I instinctively avoid Taco Bell. I think I'll stick to rolling my own.

No matter how cheap Taco Bell is, it's still more expensive than just doing it yourself. Not to mention anything you make at home will always taste better.

Does the "anti-dusting agent" keep your corpse from turning to dust? That whole turning to dust thing would probably be disturbing for customers.

Goat meat?
Dog?
Cat?
Soy?
Play-duh?
Recycled newspaper?

Ground sirloin for tacos > *

Making a huge taco dinner for 4 at home is dirt cheap the second time around. The first time you have to spend a little $$ on the seasonings.

Not really

1 lb ground beef is about 3 bucks on sale
cheese is a couple bucks
sauce is a couple bucks
Shells about a buck or two

Figure this can make 8 tacos or 6 burritos, not counting the tomatos or beans they also use.

Figure it will take about a half hour to brown the beef and make the tacos

3 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1/2 hour of labor $20.00 = 28 bucks for 8 tacos

OR

I can drive my happy ass down to Taco bell and get 8 99 cent tacos for 8 bucks or chicken soft tacos for $.89 apiece.

Taco bell may not be tastier, but it is a lot cheaper and a lot more convenient. I didn't factor in taco seasoning, cleanup costs or dish soap or any of that.

Not surprised. Back when they were first trying to get big and had several items under $.50 each, you could pick up 2-3 and be nice and full for a bit. Now I wouldn't touch that part of the menu and most of it is skeptical regarding ingredients. Also remember when I first saw then put in those electronic how much you need to pay signs and was behind someone that had a total of about $15 and laughed as they must be feeding like 8 people. Now that would be like 2 if you get all steak/chicken meat items.

Honestly, fast food is pretty crappy, but Taco Bell is the shittiest of them all.

I don't know how much meat you put in your tacos, but I get about 10-12 tacos from a package of ground beef.

And some of those other ingredients, like cheese and sauce, can be used for multiple rounds of tacos since you most likely will not use the whole packages. Shredded cheese on sale: ~$2 and probably about the same for taco sauce or salsa.

Keep in mind that the remaining "beef" isn't even meat you'd be willing to eat on its own.
