vss1980--the following is a reply of mine that I stripped from another post. It gives several reasons why I have joined a mini-team. There are others of course.
[/i]Let me try to explain a little of my reasoning[...]I've been doing RC5/OGR for a long time, and frankly, had lost most of my interest. My herd was simply working on whatever it got, be it OGR or RC5. I'm not obsessed with personal stats (although I will admit to a minor addiction 🙂, but am definitely interested in team enhancing stats. I see mini-teams as a method of moving TA members to the top of the dailies/overalls, where non-TA members will see them.
Just imagine selecting the "top 100 individuals for the day" on d.net and finding several members of Team AnandTech near the top. New d.net crackers who haven't chosen a team yet will have a much better chance of joining TA if they see our members stats high on the list and follow links on those stats pages. edit: This is much like the DPC concept of "recruitment through MF", where they find that recruits jump onboard by seeing DPC members high in the stats race.
There are other reasons of course. While TA is a family, it is an extended family. Minis are more like a "nuclear" family. Being on a mini-team provides even more motivation to assimilate machines--almost like having a "mentor" to push you, and I feel, will help me to bring more to the mini, and in turn to TA.
I hope this helps explain at least part of my reasoning for joining a mini-team[/i]
sukhoi--Welcome eight!
edit: Are italics not working???
