Currently, Team AnandTech is in a heated battle for 5nd place in the world. So we cordially invite you to help us reach #1!

Just noticed two.
1) The 'TeAm' shown above.

2) The 5nd... 'second' or 'fifth'?? ;) (part of the ECCp paragraph.)

I think this looks like a good draft. If we see a need to change it after it is posted, let's do that.

The sooner we get the thread posted, the sooner those newbies should start pouring in!

Smokeball, do we have enough mentors??

Here's a start:

Sengent D2OL

The Drug Design and Optimization Lab (D2OL)? works to discover drug candidates against Anthrax,
Smallpox, and Ebola and will soon be adding targets for the top 5 major Bioterrorism organisms.
By simply downloading the client, you can contribute the idle time available on your computer
to fight biological weapons, even when not connected to the Internet. Currently, Team AnandTech
is ranked #17 in the world.

Platforms: Windows 98/2000/NT/ME/XP

Download the client here

Distributed Folding

The Distributed Folding project seeks to understand how proteins fold and assemble into living cells.
Understanding protein folding will help make better treatments for diseases.

Proteins have a vast number of folds, larger than we could hope to compute even with distributed
computing. Usually only one fold is found in nature. The Distributed Folding Project aims to test
a new protein folding algorithm to see if it can reproduce natural protein folds after making
extremely large samples of many different folds.

Team AnandTech is currently ranked #56 in the world. We really need your help! As this is still a
relatively small distributed computing project, every CPU make a noticeable difference.

Smokeball, do we have enough mentors??

There are currently 10 volunteers. There is always room for more and all you have to do is speak up. ;)

Oh, one more thing. It may be a pain, but I think the order of this listing should be rotated on a regular basis, perhaps every 30 days.

I think this needs to stay the way it is. The largest, most senior projects first down to the newest.

Couple of quick points:

Moderators have indicated that this could only be 30 days...but may relock it at the top of each forum if we desire! :)

2nd...

The Moderators said that they would be posting the thread...so we can't change it unless we go through them....I would prefer they lock my thread (or somebody from the DC forum) at the top so that we could edit/get edited if we need to. ..but having a thread of any sort is much better than none! :)

What you just described, Engineer, is the way the message at the top of the DC Forum is handled. When there are changes/additions needed, I work them up and then submit them to the Moderator who actually posts them. They prefer these changes be as infrequent as possible. And the message also has an official flair being that it is posted by the ANANDTECH MODERATOR, IMHO. ;)

You have PM.

The Mentor Team is a group of volunteers that get assigned to the new members on a rotating basis. One of the new great new ideas developed during brain storming sessions at the offsite forum. ;)

I don't want to nitpick but I am. The original DC project makes it seem that it was the first when it wasn't. It is the first to make DC main stream but prime95 is older by a couple of years.

You will not find a better place on the AnandTech forums for help, friendship and overall Team spirit...

I believe this statement but have to wonder if it may turn off some people who have never been on the DC forum.
Just a thought!

Should we mention the new "100 megabit pipe" in the SETI section in hopes that it may bring back somebody who got feed up with the old bandwidth problems?

Thanks for all the work Engineer!

Oh yeah, I took the "A" outta my sig everybody;)

How do you expect the little teams that are just starting out but are still representing Team Anandtech, to get bigger if they are always cast to the wayside. What happened to the team spirit and fun place to go concept. Remember this is about Team Anandtech as a whole. Not just Team Anandtech SETI.

No one is being cast to the wayside.

I see nothing wrong with the majority having the top spot. I expressed my opinion. You are entitled to yours.

Just to throw my two cents into the ring...

Why don't we have a list of ALL the TA projects at the top - after the "greeting" but before the descriptions start. I know there might be some question as to which should be the "first" on the list but who cares if they are ALL in a list right next to each other. Like so-->

Seti@Home
RC5
ECCP
and so on.

We could also put what rank our TeAms are next to it like so -->

Seti@Home - #11 in the world
RC5 - #2 in the world
and so on

but that is up to you guys. Basically I feel they all should get a quick Spot in the light and then go down through their descriptions.

Just my $.02

edit - to change the frown smiley to a BIG smile! - No need to be sad - this is a great recruiting opportunity for ALL projects!:D
