hey quick question

I know everyone knows this, but i've never actually done it. Whats the proper way to reformat a harddrive?

I backed up my stuff... then what...? How long does it take and what am i expecting after the process is over?

edit: I'm installing WIN 2K Pro, and I'm trying to format the whole drive.

Should i uninstall hardware and stuff before doing this?

Ummm, if you are gonna format a different harddrive/partition, Partition Magic is a good application to format drives...

IF you are gonna format/install XP, then just put in the XP Cd and boot from CD, follow instructions.

If I recall correctly, you have to make a set of boot disks for Win2K in order to install it on a clean drive (At least that was how it was when I installed it on my work computer a couple years ago).

Just set your computer to boot from the floppy and follow the prompts on the screen to reformat.

What OS are you installing?

Win 2K pro
Just put the CD in, and delete your current partition in the boot software.

I'm trying to make the boot disks, but it says I need 4 floppies... I havent used a floppy in ages. Any way around this?
Unless your computer is really old you should be able to boot directly from the CD and format your HD from the CD. I haven't used a bootdisk in ages. Is there any particular reason why you are making boot disks?
