You are an amazing hack. Telling somebody to stay on topic then manage to slip in Palin and GWB in a thread about Obamas failed handling of the situation.

Like I said in a thread last week.....

I gave the guy a fair shot when he was elected. Thus far he has proven be just another failure who happens to have a D behind/in front of his name instead of an R.

I'm not calling for the government to swoop in and save the day, in fact I don't think it can and BP, or another oil company, is likely better equipped to solve the issue. However he should, at the very least as the head of our government, be bitch slapping BP on daily basis every chance he gets. He should also be firing, and possibly prosecuting, every dumbass in government who was part of the regulatory oversight process for offshore drilling and dropped the ball.


It looks like he may, key word "may", finally start the bitch slapping/ass kicking...but the second part is likely to never happen and that is in fact the most important thing he could be doing.

Well I'm rather disappointed in him too. Not enough to vote Republican but enough to say he's been mediocre at best.

We can look at pre-Katrina disasters and see how American Presidents stepped up to the plate as an illustration on how badly Cheney/Bush screwed the pooch, er country.

Is there an oil related precedent that serves the same purpose for Obama? We know oil disasters aren't the domain of the military so why does it sound like this is all Obama's fault?

A lot of the critics could be taken more seriously here if they would acknowledge that this disaster is a direct result of big oil being allowed to regulate itself, a main agenda goal of Obama's opposition. It fucked us just the way self-regulating banking did, yet again the guy in charge during the fallout gets the lion's share of blame and vitriol.

I just think it's funny that those howling over government intervention and politicians over-stepping their authority in the recent past are now lambasting Obama for not engaging in it now. I recall a startling lack of acknowledgment from repubs when Bush jokingly looked under his binder for WMDs, and now this same crowd is booing over Obama being detached and not showing enough emotion? Seriously?

If only he showed up in a flight suit! Why oh why couldn't he do some photo ops wearing gloves and a loose work shirt with the sleeves rolled up?

A fair shot? When? You have an avatar mocking Obama. And as for the oil mess, BP has failed to fix it, not the government. Now it has become a bigger problem. And here are the facts

Obama went to the site when this first started.
He has been there 4-5 times.
He openly criticized BP in the beginning and all the right did was use it as an attack point.
He has more than once said he will do whatever is necesssary to make BP pay. Here is the kicker, unless they are held criminally responsible, their liabaility is capped at 75 million. What has OB done? Opened an investigation for criminal charges against BP.
He has sent resources from engineers, workers, and anything else to help BP.

What else can he possibly do, besides hope like everyone else something works to stop the oil spill?
He has banned any further deep water drilling as well.

The guy has done his job. Now its time for all these geniuses to find an answer.

He can't do that. He can't do anything to BP unless there is some proof of criminal neglience. The President just doesn't have that kind of power.

The more I read about conservatives criticizing Obama's response to the oil crisis, the more I suspect they really did think he was the Messiah. This whole time I thought it was just a lame attempt at humor. Gosh darn, why didn't he just go to New Orleans and part the sea!?
