I just got a text from jokemobi saying reply if I don?t want to be signed up. They get your number, sign you up and start charging 9.95 a month, you don?t have to do anything and you have to call your provider to have your number blocked and then you still might be stuck with a 9.95 added to your bill. My carrier is Sprint and they say they are working on the problem but they can?t just block them yet with out people asking them to. I looked it up and tons of people are getting screwed over this.

Here is one of many sites talking about it.

Someone should storm in on scammers in general, kill them, smash their computers, and burn their homes/offices. 🙂 🙂 🙂

I'd be happy with their heads on pikes in the nearest town square with their posessions being auctioned off to repay their victims.

I won't be the one to do it, but it wouldn't bother me. 🙂 These are people who have no place in our society.

Because they tell you to reply. If you do reply that signals you want whatever they are selling but if you don't reply they can't sign you up for jack.

If I called and said give me you credit card number or I will bill you for some magazines are you going to do it?

Common sense applies everywhere.

Which makes me wonder if the scam is that it's your "opt out" reply that really signs you up for the service, and you're safe if you do nothing.

All of the stupid cell content ads I see say "text to D-U-M-B to sign up", where the act of sending is what subscribes you.

Edit: like se7en said 🙂

This is no different from spam. Do you read ANY spam? I don't. Text messages or e-mail. The only difference between this and e-mail spam is that they have the capability to bill you without your providing any information. This is WRONG. Requiring a person to do something to avoid being charged for something they did not request is WRONG. That is common sense.

Edit: I just realized you read the OP wrong. You have to opt out, not opt in.

but thats not what is happening.

they are signing you up even if you do not reply.

Call your carrier and simply ask for a refund. They don't make money off that crap, and they can block it easily.

Actually when I talked to sprint they said they can sign you up for whatever they want just by having your number. The first time I called sprint they didn?t know much about it, the second time they did I guess the problem is growing. I asked them why they can?t just block these guys and the customer service guy said system isn?t setup that way. If you go to jokemobi website all you have to do is enter cell number, I suspect they are the ones entering the numbers from were ever it is they are getting them from.

Your choice is reply stop when you get the message and pray, or you call you provider and have all billing from 3rd parties blocked. Depending on your provider you might still have to pay either way.

Some people that have complained and replied STOP still got charged, and jokemobi said they would send a check lol like anyone is ever going to see that check.

delete/ignore

Guess people don't bother to read anything, if you do that you are signed up.

Edit, I ignored it, and got signed up, this is nothing like spam unless every spam you got was followed by a bill from your provider.

Wow. Why not call Sprint and tell them you're done with their Service. That'll fix this problem fast. This is total BS.

This is so meanhearted.

Ok, where do we meet. I could commit several friends if we could then go after the malware writers. And btw, killing a malware writer is way too nice.

They said they would fix any charges that pop up now that they see the problem for what it is. I have heard that other providers are not as cooperative.

I think maybe you didn't read the entire post so I'll go over it with you slowly.

He's getting charges and Sprint said they are working on a way to fix it so this doesnt happen. Whether this is blocking that service or whatever, they now realize this is a problem and are trying to stop it.

If the system they use is not set up to just deny that service to anyone, then yeah, it might take a week, month, whatever, to make software updates so that they can combat this spam.
