Hey, PC gaming isn't so complicated or expensive

PC gaming is as expensive as you want to make it. True there is a minimum investment to get a decent machine, but it is not hugely significant. You can spend $400 and get a machine that will EASILY play games at 720p. The $2000 machines are for 2560x1600 or multiple monitor gaming, even then those things can be achieved at a lower price tag than $2000.

If you want to buy a console, purchase overpriced accessories, pay money just to play online, and play games at 720p resolution...

GO RIGHT AHEAD LAD.

$2 K? That's pretty expensive. I have a setup under $400 AMD X4 630/4 Gb ram/5770 (that includes a 40" LCD 1080 P display !)...still NIB and ready to be set up. And the games cost so much lower than consoles =)

freedom to tinker settings, quick load times, browse the internet, use photoshop and many other things ! plus mouse + keyboard = sauce

don't forget sauce spills.

Not bad, does L3 cache help the AMD chips? For 20 bucks more the Phenom 920 has 6MB L3 cache.

This is a good deal, but it takes a lot of effort to learn how to put this together. Don't forget the OS either..

He included a GTX 460 but in reality a 5770/4850/gtx260/gtx450 would also give you a 60FPS experience.

You are right about the L3 cache, it is better, but that 920 is a 125 watt space heater. 🙂. I would spend 5$ more and get the 925 denob chip at only 95 watts at the same clocks. Same chip 30 watts less!

I like how no one bothers to figure in how much Windows 7 costs. i guess its assumed that everyone already owns a multi PC license or pirates??

ugh my heads gonna ecplode, pc gaming is such a hassle; youd think some pc company wouldve figured it out by now and offer decent pcs @ a good price but nooooooooo, you have to spend a bajillion dollars and do it yourself! im about to say fudge it and buy a 3DS when it comes out or maybe an arcade stick for SSF4 or maybe some decent audio equipment so i can vibe to some good music; you know a hobby that doesnt cost thousands to get into and hundreds to upgrade every 2 years! PC Gamers wonder why PC gaming is dying, WELL THIS IS WHY: ITS A FRUSTRATING COMPLICATED HASSLE!

It's because gaming companies dont care about how it looks they just care about profits. PC gaming looks 5-10times better then any console because in a console you can get better programming but not better hardware. No console can do what a $700 computer can.

At least here in europe there are dozens companies where you can compile a set of hardware and get it assembled for something like 50€ - which considering the time it takes to do it yourself if you're practised is a pretty good deal.

And considering that there are dozens of "Parts for a budget/midrange/highend PC" articles around (especially after the holiday season).. nope I really fail to see how that's such a big problem for anyone able to read a dozen pages.

Well you can usually transfer your license from the old PC, then there are student prices, MSDNA accounts, technet subscribers,..

And for including keyboard, mouse, LCD, desk and chair - there's a fair chance that the person already has that stuff.

if someone is building from scratch and has no understanding of comps then they probably do not have a Windows license and spare gaming worthy keyboard/mouse.
