do you mean like a billion years ago when i learned square dancing one week in gym class, or like an actual course dedicated to dancing?

the area high school has a dedicated dance class. i dont think the middle school does tho.

The high school my kids went to didn't.
The only time I remember dancing in school when I was going was square dancing in like 6th grade or something.

I meant during gym, and for us it was closer to 3 weeks of the 9th grade, then late in the school year we had a proper dance, towards the end of the day. It was routine for something like 40 years. I was watching an episode of Wonder Years and they had a dance unit in gym and then a school dance. Got me thinking.
I hear a lot of shit that we grew up with is no longer happening in schools any more. Just curious.

We did square dancing in elementary. No clue why.
Huh, seems like maybe a cultural hold-over from Henry Ford trying to use it to battle the insidious spread of jazz music. Interesting history, never really looked into it before.

Square dancing is highly regimented. Makes it readily suitable for school, even if everyone thinks it sucks.

my kids said no, this was not a thing they learned

I did square dancing in 5th grade, in my regular class. I think we learned some other line type dancing stuff in PE also.
