I would equate an Operating System to a gearbox, hardly a feature.

Well the operating system is a required core feature. You need an operating system.

The point of MY analogy was that they way each are marketed is one is for the masses and the other is for those who are prepared to pay extra for a superior system. That was the point of my analogy, nothing to do with extra features.
