Hey, look who's back!

Ummm... me! :Q I moved up a little on that corporate ladder and just haven't been able to participate in the forums for a while. Apparently, I've missed a bunch of stuff! (of wombats flossing, Fiddle and Gixer singin' the blues etc etc etc.)

Yeah, yeah, I know, I can hear Russ say it now: "who cares that your back, why do you have to announce it?" 😉 Well, I actually have a question...

I'm trying to get my parent's computers networked. The computers are about 60 Meters (about 180 Ft) from each other, with concrete walls in between. The 'cleanest' way to get them connected would be wireless, but I haven't seen anything even remotely cost effective be able to network through walls across that distance. What's the latest scoop on that?

I know theoretically CAT5 cables can go a pretty good distance without signal loss, but what's a good 'real world' rule of thumb to go with as far as rolling out long cat5 ethernet cables?

Glad to be back at the forums! 😀

Welcome Back! =)

As far as the Cat5 cable, I'm not too sure about that... I've seen cable that stated the max distance (it's written on the insulation), but otherwise I'm not too sure what the rule of thumb is

Thx 🙂

Havoc: Urgh, yes, what was I thinking, an on-topic post in off-topic is really off-topic for this forum, thereby making it proper to post in off-topic 😀 Is this confusing or what??

Oh, and FB: Did I hear correctly, or you getting hitched??

Funny you'd post now, tagej, I just did a search last week to see if you were still around!

Welcome back.

so i take it you make more money now... how about lending me some? interest free.... i'll pay you back in 5 years....

it's 100 meters... you can stretch it by about 10%... so 110 meters... it'd be slower than 100Mb, but eh...
