20% groceries
100% clothing

plus loans that I have out for my college tuition.

2. what percent do your parents cover?
3. what is your parents' reasoning on how much you should cover?

5. how much do you estimate everything cost in total?

1. 100%
2. 0%
3. I'm going to school, not them.
4. Nothing to see here.
5. See below
State tuition $4,500/semester
Books per semester $500
Tuition + books = $10,000 per year
Housing $435/mo + $65(utilities)/mo = $500
Food $100mo
Gas & Misc $100mo

Cost per year is $10,000+12(500)+12(100)+12(100)=$18,400/yr for going to school

That's fairly conservative with Gas, Food, and Misc.

I received scholarships and other financial aid as an undergrad (about 10k in loans) and worked to earn the rest. But I had no car as an undergrad and lived on a very, very tight budget. Same for grad school, although I was making a lot more money at that time so it was less difficult for me. Personally, I think students should be expected to work at least part time and to cover part of their tuition and living expenses, even if their parents are billionaires. Anyone receiving help from their parents should be working very hard and not goofing off.

I worked part-time my first two years. After that the course work just got to be too much. I always had tests to be studying for or projects to get done.

1. Roughly 2000 a semester (10%)
2. Roughly 10,000 a semester (50%)
3. Impossible to make enough to pay all my tuittion. Concentrate on school work
4. About 10000 in grant money / loans each semester
5. Full price would be 20,000 a semester but about half is subsidized by the school and government

Well, for example you could work ft during the summers and contribute 🙂 If you are working your ass off and learning and moving ahead then it's not so big a deal. But most of the time people who are not paying for it seem to take it for granted 🙂

If you see my post somewhere above I do pay for absiolutely everything myself. I work full-time or co-op when I'm not taking classes; just that when I am I can't work.

I pay for everything, with loans mostly. My parents bought me some food on occassion for the first two years then nothing. But they aren't very rich and I didn't expect them to pay for anything.

1. 0%
2. 0%.. pretty much... I got enough scholarships (4 different ones) that are renewable that cover all tuition and room and board for all 4 years... and then i got a one time scholarship check of $3000 that I have been able to use to buy books and other school related expenses... so far my parents and me haven't paid a dime... i had pretty decent SATS, good grades and a lot of extra curriculars in highschool and i just applied to a TON of scholarships and I got lucky...
3. If for some reason some of my scholarships got cancelled (I have a 3.8 gpa so hopefully that shouldnt happen) i'm sure my parentals would expect me to chip in some...
5. $14,000ish for tuition, room and board... (in state school)... plus $1500ish for other crap?

1. what percent of tuition+housing+books+etc do you pay for?
0%

2. what percent do your parents cover?
100%

3. what is your parents' reasoning on how much you should cover?
As long as I get good marks, I get paid for

4. any additional info to help clarify things
??

5. how much do you estimate everything cost in total?
~$15k/yr.

let's see...

1) Georgia paid for my tuition (HOPE) and $150 of my books; my mother is amazing and covered my rent; loans ($10k total) covered the rest
2) Answered above
3) I was always expected to work, but at the same time, my mother would help me out when I needed it; she's always assumed that I would take everything over after graduation, and seeing as how she was able to help me out before then, she did
4) Nope
5) In total, my estimation would be somewhere around...$30k for my three years at UGA; my one year at Emory was roughly $35k; how's that for a comparison

The above, of course, is in relation to undergrad. Graduate school will be covered by me and LSU (assistantships, tuition waivers, etc.).

1. 100%

2. 0%

3. We're poor, go get some loans

4. Loans! and Scholarships! about half and half

5. 21000k a year about 11ish after loans....not including housing or any of that.

I'm not a kid but I paid for my education. At one point, I had 1 full time job and 2 part time jobs plus took 15 hours.🙁

my parent's pay for like 99.9% of my college education, I'm not going to expect them to pay for grad school. By that point I better be on my own two feet.
BTW: about 50% scholarship
and I work on campus to cover most of my books

I can neither be a pharmacist nor a highschool teacher (order of career wants) by learning a trade.

Have a father like I do! 😉

But it does suck in a way, because I probably won't get a car till I graduate...groceries is SOO hard to do because i hitch rides from friends and i hate annoying them....and I'm stuck on campus and really cna't go anywhere

did i mention i'm pretty much stuck on campus? 😉
