1. what percent of tuition+housing+books+etc do you pay for?
2. what percent do your parents cover?
3. what is your parents' reasoning on how much you should cover?
4. any additional info to help clarify things
5. how much do you estimate everything cost in total?

1.) I pay for all of my books and will be paying for ALL of my loans (roughly $17,000 worth).
2.) My mom covered basically the rest, minus federal grants/scholarships - roughly 30-40% of tuition in all, I'd say.
3.) I volunteered to pay for the rest.

I pay:

0% tuition
0% books
100% groceries
100% clothing
100% car payment (2004 Accord)
100% rent
100% utilities

My parents rationale: school is free as long as I get good grades (currently have 3.7 GPA). Everything else is my responsibility. I'm fine with that.

1)Pay for all books, and rent next year
2)My great uncle died and covered my tuition except for senior year..not totally though, Ill hav about 15,000 loans at the end of the 4 years...actually more because I dont know what to do for Senior year yet (Yay)
3)Parents arent doing much, they dont really need to because I'm lucky and my sisters college owned their souls.

1. I pay nothing.
2. My parents cover the money for food and gas for me.
3. Same as above
4. I got pell grants and fafsa to cover all tuition+housing+books+etc whatever you name them.

I go to RIT. 🙂

1. It'll end up around me covering 75% of everything.
2. 10% parents, 15% grandma (She's giving me 10k for school).
3. I have a brother and a sister who will also most likely be going to school. My parents weren't very well off in my early years at all, no financial planning, college funds, etc. Hard work has gotten them further.
4. I wouldn't want my parents to cover my schooling. Me paying for it makes it that much better when I'm done.

1. Approximately 75% through loans and scholarships (did)
2. Approximately 25%
3. Their parents paid for their education...they partially paid for mine based on the promise that I would pay for my kids' education
4. Like what?

1. Absolutely zero. I am going through a state program for free college next year w/ free everything (except parking).

2. Parking 😛

3. Nothing, til I go to real college. The I have to get scholarships.

4. Bob is your uncle.

My tuition was paid for three and a half years, by a scholarship. For the first two years my parents paid room & board. Then I became eligible for federal loans and grants in my third year. Second semester of year four, I was suspended (grades) but was allowed to attend part-time (two classes) so I used my loans and grants to do that. Fifth year = 65% tuition paid by scholarship, the rest (incl. room and board) paid by loans and grants, and some change left over for spending money 🙂

1. Didn't have to pay tuition. Scholarship covered all of it.
2. 0%
3. Parents didn't have the funds.
4. I paid for books, and some housing. Federal Pell grant covered those.

i paid for all my tuition and books

parents paid for my rent and grocery store food

i paid for all other food and activities

their reasoning was that if i did not go to college, they would still have to pay that amount to support me at home

1. I don't pay for anything. Thanks to the Empowerment Zone.
2. 0%
4. I was able to get into Focus: HOPE for free because SW Detroit is being renovated. So the government is giving away free training to anyone 17-21, lives in SW Detroit, and is low income.

1. 50%
2. 50%
3. If they could pay 100% they would, but they can't.
4. Having 3 kids in college/professional school school at the same time is a financial strain!
5. My education will end up costing about 112K w/o extra living costs and books. Maybe 130K in all. That's undergrad and graduate.

1. My scholarship money (and an interest free loan) covered roughly 70-75% of the cost to attend my school. The total costs are about $40,000/year. For the part remaining, I usually pay about $4,000-5,000 up front.
2. My parents cover the remaining part ($5,000-6,000/year).
3. The agreement I had with my parents before I started working years ago was to set aside half of what I earn for college. In the past few years, I've contributed a little more than half.

I'll graduate (in 3 weeks, woohoo!) with only about $10,000 in interest free debt. Not bad for a $120,000 education.

My parents paid for everything and even gave me spending money. Yes I was spoiled.
Well over 100k total.

1. 100%
2. 0%
3. They are poor, and also believe that I should be responsible.
5. Overall, I'll graduate with $35k in student loans, and tens of thousands out of pocket over the last six years.

My parents pay for 100% of my tution/room and board which is roughly $6800 a year

I pay for books, food, and everything else. I will graduate with about 15k in student loans. My parents say if I graduate with higher than a 3.7 they will pay them off as well.

1. Everything, with finacial aid, most of which will have to be paid back by me.
2. Nothing..
3. I'm sure my mom would love to help, if she actually had money, and didn't have five other kids to pay for too...
5. I'll probably have 40K or more in loans, including grad school. I haven't really paid for much out of pocket yet.
