hey guys, quick question about an external cd writer!

I just got an external USB HP 8200 series model cd-writer. It works fine and everything, but now there is a little icon in my system tray that lets me safely remove the hardware if I so please. I want to get rid of this icon, but can't figure out how. I'm sure it's a Windows thing, and it won't go away through reboots or anything. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks! Sorry, forgot to mention I was running WinXP, I do that all the time. But it works!!!
