I am trying to pick a card for video editing for my new computer. I am going to buy the new NV20 cards for video gaming but I need a card just for video editing. To save money I dont want a card thats a good video card for gaming and such (as I will get the nv20) but I want a card that does video editing well. Any help on this would be MUCH appreciated! 🙂

Thanks a ton 😀

Analog Video Capture, with Analog output
Analog Video Capture with Digital Output (Mpeg on CDs?)
Digital Video Capture with Analog output
Digital Video with Digital Video Output
Digital Video with Digital File Output (Mpeg)

There are many different types of video editing, all depending on source, and destiniation. Which one do you want to do?

I just want to be able to capture from a source such as my camcorder and put it on a VCR tape or be able to save the file as mpg.

- Thanks for the quick response! 🙂

The cheapest is to use DV camcorder as a source for videp capture.
Because there are cards for this purpose very inexpensive these days - like Pinnacle DV Studio - which could be had for about $50-100. That includes the card with Firewire connections and s/w. There are others too
- shop around.
If you don't have digital camcorder - there are cards for this too - just more expensive.
DV camcorders are getting cheaper - check out the D8 Sony line - if you already have analog 8mm tapes - these can still play them for you - you can even edit them on your PC using the above mentioned card.
It's fun, but time consuming.

One more thing - don't confuse video display card with video edit card.
Two completely diff. terms.
One is for your display - 2d or 3d etc. - what you see on the monitor.
The other is for editing of a video signal and to provide you with fast connection to the source - not for display purpose - it still uses your video card for that.

Hey thanks for all the help guys, I dont have a digital camera. I have a sony camera with just the 3 little a/v connections on them. Also will I be able to edit sound with a video editing card? do they have sound in as well.

Thanks for all the help

if all u want is tv-in and tv-out w/ video capture, get an ATI Rage Fury Pro...

it actually uses a separate chip for video capture, etc. is OK...
plus it has 3d, which isn't up to par w/ anything decent nowadays, but its OK...

for your needs, this sounds like a suitable card.
