Hey guys i've tried LOADS on my 6800gt but still problems...

Hey guys, my machine spec is in my signature, the basic problem is that my games always crash at some point. You've heard it all before with the 6800GT but seriously i've tried LOADS of stuff which i will list and tried LOADS of drivers. Far Cry now loads up but crashes into the game, half life 2 runs fine but crashes later on into the game say 20 minutes.

Basically i have:

Turned Fast Write off in BIOS and in Windows
Made aperture 512mb (and tried other Mb's)
Put my AGP Speed to 4x8x
Checked my 2d and 3d clocks are the same
Flashed my motherboard to the latest version (1.4)
Got the latest drivers for my sound and motherboard
Attempted Agp speeds of 4x and 8x
Tried drivers, 7120, 6771, 6681, 6693, 6766, 6703

SIGH... As you can see i've tried loads but the problem continues, i searched the forums for threads about this and found many and read all the pages that's how i got the info to try all the stuff above. If anyone has any suggestions at all and can help me fix this problem which some people have solved and which some haven't then i would be REALLLLLLY HAPPY!!!
 
re install windows. im betting that will fix it.
leave your aperature at 256MB if your system has 1GB of ram, and 128 if your system has 512MB of ram.

man, that really sucks what was your old vid card and was it doin it w/ that? i think theres a chance you might just have a bad card that can't perform in 3d stuff i had a 5900xt that was like that and i RMAd it
 
Thanks for the welcome 🙂, big community here i see. Hmm i think i will mess about with it abit more before i reinstall windows but that might fix it. I have all the original boxes and reciept so i may just send this back and buy a x800 xt agp which has less problems then this card 🙁. Thanks
 
Maybe your power supply isn't providing enough juice - those 6800gt cards do eat up considerable amounts of power. Anyone else have any ideas?
 
I had a problem with corruption on my 6800GT that seemed to get worse with the amount of time I played. It would eventually cause my game to crash as well. I reinstalled drivers, reapplied thermal compound and even reformated and nothing helped. Well, the idiot I am I never suspected the FSB being too high...and well, it was. Went from 250 down to 240 and was perfectly fine. It didn't cross my mind at first I suppose because otherwise my system was stable and i don't remember having the problem when I first overlocked.
 
Check your PSU first. You can run prime95 while monitoring the 12V rail voltage with a Volt meter.

Then, check your memory by running memtest overnight.

Then, check your CPU by running prime95 overnight.

Then, check your graphics card by running ATItool scan for artifacts while monitoring the GPU temperature.

Do it in this order and fix any problems before moving forward.

If all passes, move to software. I doubt that would be the case.
 
Breakthrough so to speak, i uninstalled all my nvidia drivers and put my old crappy 9200 se radeon PCI in ...... the games which worked on my old system (Halo) crashed on the menu, which is what used to happen when i had the nvidia in. So it must be my system i have this ram:

I've set it all up correctly and it's been checked so what's my problem 380 W should be enough since i treid a 9200. It might the the Value (aka shitty) ram though. Any suggestions guys, Thanks.

Hey mate sorry i didn't say, i did what you said but the computer crashed completely (this was using the 6800gt) so i couldn't see the recording.
 
Did you test your PSU with a Volt meter?

You say it crashed. It crashed at what stage?

Are you overclocking your CPU or RAM?
 
It could be the BIOS of your video card. For some reason, many GeForce 6800 series cards seem to have a screwed-up BIOS (messed up 2D and 3D clocks, to be more precise). I had a similar problem like yours with my GeForce 6800 Ultra, but flashing the BIOS to an updated version fixed it, once and for all.
So you might want to try downloading a 'fix' version of the BIOS for your card, then flash it. If you can't find the BIOS for your card, you'll have to manually dump your card's BIOS, edit the 2D and 3D clocks so they match, save, then flash using that.

Try 71.84 drivers.

But it's possible that it is your PSU, even though I have heard of people having success with that exact PSU.
