HEY GUYS! I'VE GOT TEN INCHES IN MY VIRGINIA!

Luckily I dont need I95

But this is not surprising. They're always doing work and never getting anything accomplished, and even with navigation systems most people are too dumb or stubborn to take alternate routes. Its a nightmare highway. Also most people are too stupid to keep emergency supplies and tools in their cars during the winter.

DC and surrounding metro areas area knows cold but doesn't know how to deal with winter. I have lived in MD all my life.

That's why I find the certain hockey(Canadians sure can be xenophobic and insecure) presumptuousness regarding Cali towns and Southern towns but not places like DC pathetic.

There is no way governments would mandate snow tires(the problem is that storms are not that frequent) here but life and work matters, which is why people get on the road in a snowstorm in the first place....

BTW, Northam and the Dems control everything still. It's not Yuncan's time yet.

Geography doesn't help, with the Potomac being a giant wall. NoVA is filled with money and a pretty piece of real estate.

We're suppose to get pounded with 10-20cm tonight. Going to be a greasy morning getting in to work. Thankfully I'm off now so I don't have to deal with that.

What shuts down some cities, is just considered a pain in the ass for us, and we're still are expected at work. 😛 Though they seem to shut down highways more often here now days so that does affect the mines somewhat.

The salty nuts up there are far more concentrated. (And I mean more than just our fellow member. Being America's little stepbrother does that😉 😛)

us in the mountain west and along the front range of colorado shake our heads as well... we got a foot of snow and it was 10 below zero with 100 mph winds a few nights ago, and nobody cared, got stranded and very few lost power, besides the people that were in the giant and terrible fire. Its snowing right now with winds in the 30's and temps below 20. no biggie.

news says theres serious risk of a snow emergency, starting on Thursday.
Its weird, snowplows have been around almost a hundred years. Why is every winter an emergency for Virginia?

Expecting up to 30cm/12in here the next day or 2. Not totally abnormal( happens every few years or so), but after last years Weather events, it just piles on.

Connecticut isn't exactly the "frozen tundra" but we still dig out from big snow storms pretty quickly.

Thing is having learned from harsh experience most cities/towns here have at least nominal snow-clearing equipment already in-place.

Also:

Work usually dictates going out. Gubment and business hate shutting down; Kaiser Permanente and grocery stores were open during the peak of the storm in MD, so the bees who got there obviously had to get there in the early morning.

It costs money to pay snow plow crews and their service is only periodic. Some of the smaller plow trucks are probably from people who run landscaping companies in the summer.

Plus this is a warm locality on the basis that ice hockey on bodies of water here is no bueno. Lakes and ponds are not to skated on but drowning hazards. So people are really don’t want to get winter tires for just a couple storms.

Since Tim Kaine got stranded, there will be a little more “soul searching” than normal since he got stuck because he too was going to work.

I never get snow here :C I like playing in the snow.

So, allegedly my neck of the woods will be just barely missing a freezing rainstorm. Unless the weatherman is off, which he's known to be.

We got more than predicted. We were supposed to get 1-3 inches and I just cleaned my driveway and cars off and it's probably more like 4-5. My son has had 1.5 days of school this week due to snow lol.
