hey guys, i have a question about hooking up my cd-rom

ok, my computer is having problems booting up so i got lucky one time and winxp loaded

since that day, i have not shut down/restarted once,,, it's been at least a week

the problem is, i need to hook up my cd-rom to install something since I don't have any drives hooked up

can i connect my cd-rom with the computer power on?

i really don't want to risk turning off the computer and not have it turn back on

You can, but it would be extremely dumb to do.

IDE cables...yeh you could probably get away pulling them. I wouldn't fiddle with a power cable though when the machine was on.

It's not smart Plus I doubt Windows can see the drive....it's not Plug and Play Go ahead and fry it though.....

Probably the most safe way of doing this is trying to chase down a USB CDROM that doesn't require any special drivers to be installed.

Reboot your rig. If it doesn't boot to Windows come back and we can help you with your basic problem first.
