Hey Europeans (UK, Fr, Ger), why do you guys hate hydration?

I was in the U.K. and France last year, Germany right now, and why is it there are virtually no public water fountains, restraunts charge more for bottled water than beer and wine, and even a glass of tap water costs a euro.

The only benefit I see is I never have to pee. Which is good because you have to pay to use the toilet.

Drinking wine was much easier than drinking water in Italy.

If you want to drink water you have to pay for it, that's a very large culture difference in a lot of European countries.

I have no problem buying water, it's cheap and you get recycling refunds from the bottles anyway. I also carry around my own water bottle most times anyway.

Germany wasn't as bad as France though... or Russia even... there they had porta potties on the street that street vendors charged you to use... ugh..

Germany in general I had no problems finding a decent bathroom.

By the end of my Munich trip I got so fucking sick and tired of their fucking beer and their stupid "laws" of only using 4 ingredients for beers.

It's funny because I'm always amazed that Americans cant seem to walk 15 feet without having to put something in their faces! Seriously, going for an hour or so without eating or drinking isnt going to be detrimental!

I pretty much always travel with water. If I'm spending the day walking, I'll take a bottle with me.

I’m mostly just bitching. It’s not normally a problem until one of the kids really needs to go.

I’ll see if we can fit it in, but we’ve got reservations at the Biergarten at the center of the English gardens tomorrow and Saturday we are going hiking in the mountains.

We do too. But it’s been in the upper 80’s and we have to find a place to refill during the day.

They do. No ice in any of the drinks.

They need to work on that...I know drinks are often a greater profit point than food, but the waste factor in bottled water is absurd.

TLDR. We are having a great time.

Ok, then...here's my fave:

Southern Italy...old school cafes. Order a coffee, get arguably the world's best espresso, a cold water from the soda fountain (fizzy or natural) and use of the bathroom (often with soap, towels and an actual toilet seat), all for under 1 euro.

Sometimes later in the day, they offer free snacks as well.

I agree on the Italy sentiment. you can get an espresso, a pastry(best croissant+fresh berries ever), and a glass of steamed milk for around 1.5 euro
