Hey Connies, did you like "Day After Tomorrow"?

Martin

Lifer
The political jabs at the right were so numerous, that I can't see how any conservative could have stayed for the whole movie 😉

but, did any of you manage to see the whole movie and did actually like it?

From what I've heard, the movie is so stupidly over the top in trying to beat the "global warming" theory into viewers' heads, that it's likely to backfire because no one will take it seriously anymore. If you believe in this stuff, a movie like this is probably the worst thing that could have happened to your cause because it just made a completely mockery of the risks you are forseeing. So congratulations, your pet cause just became a parody.

I haven't seen it yet - but when I do, I'll take it for what it is - a mindless summer blockbuster, not a political statement (as much as Al Bore would like it to be...)

From what I've read, the environmental disaster is played WAY over the top, as is the incompetance of the Pres and coniving of the VP.

I haven't had the chance to see it, not released here yet, but I did read an article by some global warming experts who panned the "science" behind the movie. It was on MSNBC last week, I believe.

That's about right. It's a visually entertaining summer flick, but if anything that movie will damage the cause of environmentalists attempting to have a rational dialogue about sensible policies. The "science" in the movie would serve as a perfect straw man for someone bashing environmentalists.

Its Hollywood, obviously the science is absolutely horrible. And yes, the movie as a movie, isn\ta any good. Still, its ok if you're bored and have C$4 to spare.

C$4? Consider yourself lucky! 😉

C$4 for stadium seating, digital surround sound, huge chairs and the works.

Too bad I am not in Canada, I would love to be able to pay this much all the time 😉

My wife and I just saw it. I found it entertaining, and took the poltical aspect as just more entertainment. The movie was nothing more than a flick in the same gender as earthquake or volcano. Just another disaster flick. For anyone to try and politisize it, you must be really f..kd up in the head to think it has any value for that. Go see it. It's not bad. Makes me appreciate where I live, south enough not to freeze to death if it even had an inkling of viability.

Why is that a problem for you? Is it the hot to cold thing?

That's actually a likely situation. I like my sci-fi to make a point, something that predicts ware we are going and what we can do about it: but when dick-Chaney is caricatured into a movie as the ?bad guy?... well, it's just a joke.

The premise was stupid, the acting was bad, the editing was lack-luster, the special effects where nifty.

I'd have to say that it'd take 10 viewings of it to be as bad as "manos: hand of fate", which is a remarkably LOW number of times.

Why does this make it a joke? What if Dick Cheney is really the bad guy after all? Is there anything wrong with movies making social commentary?

It makes it a joke because it crossed the line into modern political advocasy.

Social commentary isn't the same as political: this movie crossed the line into political comentary.

but then i listen to art bell so i had to go see it 🙂

I think most red-blooded Americans didn't like the movie becuz it showed the US being indebted to 3rd world countries 😀

I watched a show about something like this a few months ago that was really interesting. Basically, it said that at one point, a large amount of fresh water was dumped into the North Atlantic (I can't remember the lake that caused it), but it basically shut down the Gulf Stream (the Conveyor) and that it plunged Europe into a mini ice age for several hundred years (this was during the dark ages, and lasted until the late 16th or 17th centuries, iirc).

While it wouldn't be as dramatic as the movie wants us to believe, it would still have a dramatic impact on the world if it did happen again.

I wouldn't mind some glaciers reaching into the valley after weekends like we just had (it's 87* outside, supposed to get up to 107* again today). Might actually solve our drought problem as well. 😀
