I'm just curious. I'm a southern boy and I've never been to Canada.

What's in the northern part? Like northern Quebec and the Northwest Territories.

What about those islands way way up there?

Maps would be cool.
 
Well further north than Edmonton for the most part its just the boonies minus isolated villages, towns, indian reserves, and a few cities....

As for physically whats there...well... there's many lakes, trees, some mountains, then there's the treeline and there's artic tundra...
 
far up north above quebec and in northern quebec and northern parts of any of the provinces just about, there isn't a hell of alot. nothing worth coming here for anyways unless of course you enjoy sheer wilderness. there is no themeparks that's for sure!! some pretty nice areas way up north but again, nothing commercial really at all. most of the population in Canada is in South-Western Ontario. 🙂 (not really but a good portion)

Why, is south-western Quebec bad?

I've just always had a facination with remote cold places. Siberia, Greenland, etc.

I'd never move there, unless there were a big enough town. Like 500K. Edmonton seems to have a bunch of people.

Honestly, the vast majority of Northern Canada is tundra which is pretty flat and barren with little or no vegetation. This is because of a lack of soil due to permafrost which limits the growing season and the production of new soil. The permafrost also permits easy water runoff, which washes away most new soil that is produced.

Also, to the extreme north of Canada (Ellesmere Island, Baffin Island and the extreme north of Nunavut/Northwest Territories) there is a fairly substantial mountain range with peaks as high as 2,700m (~9,000ft) that rise almost directly from the ocean.

North of that, you basically have nothing but huge ice floes and the channels between them.

Yeah 648,284 as of 1999.

I have to move to bigger city. Bedford and it's 14,000 people are driving me nuts. I hate small towns.

I applied for a job in New Orleans, I have my fingers crossed. How is the job market in Canada?

Depends if you count surronding area or not, most people do around here as Edmonton has 2 cities that are literally attatched directly to it (St Albert and Sherwood Park...)
 
Aside from Canada?s Zombie problem I?ve enjoyed every trip I have been on to our friendly neighbor to the north. I traveled mostly in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and the people were nice and the food was good, saw lot?s of trees and fields and stuff. Gas was kind of expensive. 🙂

Its not so bad if you live here. Its not like our street corners and parks are full of garbage all the time.... OH WAIT! IT IS! Thanks to the city workers strike... we are swimming on our own filth!

/me is starting to hate these garbage men. :|
 
Edmonton and its suburbs are well over 850,000. Its also the northen most major metropolitan area in North America.

Calgary should be over 900,000 and closing in on a million in the next few years..
