Happy Thanksgiving/Turkey Day! Don't forget the Canucks game at 4 on Sportsnet! 🙂
Howitis: I think Thanksgiving came to what is now Canada with the Loyalists who left the (what is now) the US prior/during the War for Independence. I might be wrong about that though.
Actually the very first Thanksgiving was in Canada, 43 years before the Mayflower story. They had a huge article on it in the paper here. Some guys from Europe who had just survived a terrible storm at sea found some island up north and had as big a dinner as they could (mostly salty beef from the ship's hold), prayed, and thanked god for getting them all through the trip, each other, and for everything else they had.
I don't think that's what started the tradition though, and the Mayflower one is the birth of the modern Thanksgiving I'm sure, but it wasn't the first one 🙂
I think we'll have our dinner at around 1:30 or 2 again this year, so we have a little time before hockey starts 🙂
That sounds like they just had a dinner, lol. I wonder why they say they were the first 'thanksgiving'
Happy Thanksgiving
Well, maybe the 2 page article lost a little of it's content when I condensed it into one sentence. I guess the American one in one sentence would be like: Some guys came on a ship and had a big harvest, then they had a big dinner with some indians and were thankful for all they had. Sounds kinda like "dinner party" too 🙂
LOL 😀
Cheers,
