...Did the M3 ever come in 4 door form? I saw a 4 door 3 series today that had an M3 tag on it, which I've never seen on anything but a 2 door. I was just curious if these were "after market" tags or not ;)

The current M3 comes in sedan form as well, though they are somewhat limited in number.

I'm trying to decide between a 2002 M3 and a 2002 Audi S4. The S4 offers similar peformance with all-wheel-drive at a lower cost.

Personally, I'd choose the M3 since it seems Audi is always trying to catch up with BMW and you'd be buying an all-new and redesigned M3. Plus, for true sports car performance (which I assume is what you're looking for with these cars), I don't think AWD is really an asset. Either way, you can't lose though. Man, I'd love to be in your shoes facing such a choice. . . .

As for M badges, do keep in mind that some people love to put M badges on their non-M bimmers. So even since M3 sedans do exist, it doesn't mean every bimmer 3-series sedan with an M badge is an M3. . ..

An M3 Sedan is the (realistic) car I lust after.

An M5 Sedan is the (unrealistic) car I lust after.

In between there would be a 540i with 6 speed/sport package.

GT, I hope you put your name down on the wait list for the M3 because I believe there is a 2 year wait list.

We have the 1999 M3 Roadster Convertible (the coupe is so weird looking) and it's such a sweet ride. Last autumn we drove it from CT to San Diego via Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, Lake Louise, Seattle, Redwood National Park, Napa Valley, Monterey, Yosemite, and LA, and then returned via Grand Canyon, San Antonio, New Orleans, Savannah, Charleston, Atlanta, and DC. Was around 11,000 miles and the only maintenance we had to have was an oil change and 4 new tires in Spokane, WA. Tough packing though for the two of us. Completely abandoned the idea of suitcases and just folded stuff up and stuck it in the trunk. We got her up to 145 mph in Idaho/Wyoming/Montana, but then the speed governor kicked in. We were a little pissed off since the speedometer goes to 165, but it was quite a feeling with the top down . . .

Gotta go for the M3 . . . but you have to invest in 4 snow tires or the car simply won't move in snow or ice . . .
