And when AMD launch Fiji in the new year, they'll claw it back again. The graph says it all, we've been through this back-and-forth for years.

But notice the drop-off in Q2 2014 though -- AMD is world class, fierce and very strong competitors that bring compelling choice. Just one misstep from nVidia could dramatically change this current landscape or Amd may surprise with a technology marvel.

GCN 2.0 is do or die for AMD. The stakes are very high.

Most disadvantage AMD has that they cannot wait like Nvidia or else they will suffer more and more and whereas Nvidia can play time game like they did with GTX 780 Ti.

So u mean AMD will keep on losing share till next summer?

There next gpu is coming in summer because AMD is facing finical problems and budget problems.

It's just commentary on an NVIDIA investor article, what else would you expect?

Sure the market share is pretty bad for AMD but I doubt this will mean much in 6 months.

It is means a lot because i am investor too.U cannot trust the company only with hype and PR slides.U need show or give something to investor or else it is a death game for AMD with such a low market share.

Its not for fun some people hope ATI could get its life back on its own. AMD is simply just dragging it down. But again, AMD is mainly a GPU company today.

Even without the Q3 result, nVidia share is slowly increasing. And AMD is under serious pressure now. Maxwell may have been the GPU version of Conroe.

AMD graphics market share is low in add in, but they still sell a lot to consoles, laptops, and tablets.

The last CEO said this was their direction, it could go either way. Even 30% is a good piece of a market, so I wouldn't count them out yet.

My R290 with 4 games for $250 was an amazing deal, maybe they can compete on price.

Haha, talk about hyperbole much? AMD will have Fiji coming out in the New Year, with stacked memory. They'll be fine.

We've seen this dance for years. One side takes the lead, the other one retakes it. Repeat ad infinitum.

Try draw a line from Q3 2010 to Q2 2014. Now tell me if you believe your own story.

And when in the new year? Summer?

Remember AMDs own expectations for Q4? 13% revenue drop, mainly coming from the GPU side.

It's barely beating AMD's last gen. A poor comparison imo.

To a degree yes, but AMD rarely has the actual lead (50%+) share so Nvidia is almost always in the lead its just a matter of how much.

The main problem for AMD is the R&D starvation and a management still in high hopes of CPUs. And the GPUs do suffer from that.

Hmmm... I'm sure this couldn't have anything to do with the tone of the article:

Timothy Green owns shares of Nvidia. The Motley Fool recommends Berkshire Hathaway and Nvidia. The Motley Fool owns shares of Berkshire Hathaway

So the author of the article owns shares of Nvidia and recommends them. The website he writes for owns shares of Berkshire Hathaway and recommends them.

I see a pattern developing here.

Exactly! What's 1/4 down anyway?

Tis but a scratch!

/end(sarcasm)

First of all 25% down is not exactly a flesh wound.

And secondly - losses are not reversible as some of you suggest.
AMD might (or might not) recover the market, but the money lost is the money lost never to be seen again, and it means less resources going forward.

What does it take to realize that Maxwell launch(yes that means 750/Ti) should not have been just another day in AMD's office?
We've already had confirmation that Nvidia is swamping the high-end channel with 80%.
And what has changed compared to Q3? 970/980 launch duh... 1+1=2

My take, if this trend continues we will soon have the position like we have in the CPU space. They should try to take the sgpu crown period even if it costs $1000.

Its not for fun some people hope ATI could get its life back on its own. AMD is simply just dragging it down. But again, AMD is mainly a GPU company today.

Talk about exaggerations. The GPU market is not the CPU market, and Nvidia is not Intel. I hear a comparison once that AMD and Nvidia are like two rhesus monkeys flinging poo at each other, while Intel is the 900 pound gorilla sitting in the corner that occasionally comes and takes their bananas.

Nvidia has tended to be the market leader for GPUs, it's true, and it swings even more in Nvidia's favor when they have the performance crown. But just look at recent benchmarks -- GCN has been pulling ahead of Kepler. Things will stabilize. But yes, AMD definitely needs an answer to Maxwell 2, especially before it starts filtering down into the mid-range. Tonga's improvements don't cut it.

Sorry, I meant the performance lead. NVidia has had the highest shipments pretty consistently.

$200 R9 290 is even a better deal! (It's a great card really, I have one ref. heater myself :D)
But did it help them one iota?

We've heard this many times before:
All AMD needs to do (insert something painful, like ridic price slash)

This one is not on AMD marketing department

No one can reinvent your business, when all you have is the choice between losing market share and money,
and losing even more market share and money, or some equally unattractive combination of the two.
