Hewlett Packard 864N problem

Nocturnal

Lifer
OK this computer is an HP, it is a Windows Media Center Edition PC. Basically I'm trying to install a new hard drive and then reinstall Windows using this guys' recovery cds. When I attempt to reinstall Windows onto the new HDD, it tells me that I'm using the wrong cds. This guy has purchased two sets according to partsurfer.hp.com and both cd sets do not work. They say "Windows XP Home" on the CDs as opposed to saying something like Windows XP Media Center Edition.

What could be the problem? Do you think it's a mixup on HP's part or is it something to do with tattooing the motherboard?

I checked and rechecked and even found an article on HP's website stating that it should be fine to install a hard drive and use the recovery CDs. What else could possibly be causing this to happen? I know for a fact that these are indeed the CDs for this computer. HELP!

the recovery cds look at the hardware in the system to see if its the same that it came with, to make sure the cds are being installed on a different computer. its possible that hp made them so sensitive that they won't allow a hard drive change

Ok if that is the case, how would I get around this? Are there BIOS updates or something along those lines? Do you know anyone else who has experienced this? What do they expect when someone's hard drive dies like this guy's did?
