I work for Copymax and was copying some flyers today for Officemax. According to what i saw, they are having a sale for the Hewlett Packard 200I Internal DVD+RW/CD-RW Drive for $300. Circuit city is also having a deal on the same drive $449 + $100 instant gift card

If you were to PM the OM deal to a circuit city you could potentially get the drive for 285+ tax Plus a free $100 instand gift card.

Who knows, maybe you could then return to circuit city and ask to use the $100 gift card and get $100 cash back.

ILL keep you updated

UPDATE: IT IS CONFIRMED AS OFF TONIGHT!!! THE DRIVE IS $299.

PM TO Circuit Coty and Recieve it for $270 + get a free $100 Certificate!!!!!!!
YMMV

Happy hunting

It will be interesting to see if it works, an other post suggested doing the same type thing with the Access point last week. If it's in my local ads tomorrow I might give it a try. Maybe you should buy at reg price for the receipt to send for the gift card and then go back and get the price match. I wouldn't open it until you get the PM.

Fry's has the Ikebana (Ricoh) DVD+RW for $199.99 (after $50.00 Mail-in Rebate) this weekend. It may be less hassle to get that instead (if you live near a Fry's of course).

The HP does DVD+R too ( I'm pretty sure) while the Ikebana does not. It's like buying a CDRW drive that can't write to CD-R

From what i understand. You get the $100 gift card instantly at the register. Nothing to send it. Could be wrong

Is the OM deal B&W? I can't find it on the website at all. Would it be in the weekly ad? I might have to go buy a paper.

This is prolly gonna get LOCKED, as my thread on it did... BLAH! "***SNAP***"

About PM OM to CC... I called CC and this is what they had to say.
They take the $100 gift gard into account, thus making CC's price $349.
Then there's the 110% of the difference, which is $50, thus being something like $55.
So, basically it's the same price as OM's price of $300.
The CC $100 gift card can NOT be used on the HP purchase.
You get the gift card at time of instore purchase, but if you buy on-line then you have to send in for it, as there is a rebate form that says it is specifically for online purchase.

Have Staples PM to OM and use $40 off $200 coupon (if they're still out there)...$300-40 = $260.

this writes the DVD+R format not the standard DVD-R format. Will still work in most DVD players but I'd rather go with DVD-R.

Err, DVD-R is hardly "standard". It is older and therefore more widespread than DVD+R, but the two are just about equally "standard".

Ultimately, what matters is which is more compatible with existing DVD players, and so far (only on paper) DVD+R seems more promising.

sorry, by "standard" I do mean widespread. most DV studios write to DVD-R. I own neither but prefer products that have been in the market. From all that I've read - in DVD authoring forums at dv.com mostly - DVD-R has a larger compatibility reach, though this depends partially on the media available and software write process so maybe such will change as DVD+R lives in the market longer.

I got PM today at Best Buy, but it was a PITA! They did not do the 110% PM the way I did the purchase, all they did was match the price. They wouldn't do the 100% PM either until I found an OM that had it IN STOCK. I even talked to the store GM, she said no way without an OM verifying in stock status over the phone.

They said to get the 110%, I would have to actually buy one from OM, after I bought the one at BB, then bring the OM receipt, and they would take off another $15 bucks. I could then choose to take the one back to OM if I wanted, they just needed to see a receipt.

Anyways, I am a glutton for abuse, so on the way home from work, I will attempt a PM at CC so I can get a $100 GC.

What is so funny about their methodology is, they charge you for the gift card. I went to CC tonight as I said, but the total came to $423! I said what about the PM? They said they PM'd to $294.99, but the GC was $100, so with tax on the 200i, and on the $100 GC, the total was $423. This does not make sense, but they would not budge, saying they were losing money by matching the $294.99! Too bad CC. I believed that one should get the PM at $294.99, and then get a $100 GC, so the effective cost approaches $200, didn't work that way for me, but I still got a great price and a nice drive. Oh, I said I didn't want the GC, so the price difference became $150 again, so I got the drive for $284.99, before tax.

Here's my story:

-I went to officemax and got the flyer showing the sale price of $299.99

-Then I ordered the drive online at circuit city's website, so I could qualify for the $100.00 gift card. I choose instore pickup. My AMEX credit card was charged $449.99 + tax = $476.99

-I then went to my local circuit city to pickup the drive. I gave them my confirmation number which had written down on a post-it note. I showed them the flyer, they said "no problem". They didn't even call Officemax to verify. They refunded my card $174.90. I made sure not to show them anything or tell them about the gift card.

-I will now request an american express pricematch, since my credit card indicates it was charged $476.99. I will pricematch to a store that sells it for $358.00 and AMEX will send me a check for $91.99. I usually receive my AMEX pricematch refund checks within 5 business days.

-I will now send out for my giftcard and once I receive it, I will sell it on Ebay. I looked at past Ebay auctions for circuit city giftcards and they seem to sell for 85% - 90% of their value. Therefore, I will get about $80.00 for my circuit city gift card (after ebay fees)

-Final price of my drive $130.10

NOTES:

-I have 60 days from the date of purchase to request a AMEX pricematch. I could wait for the price of the drive to drop more, which it will, and then request a AMEX pricematch which would refund me even more.

-If for some reason I do not get the amex pricematch or the giftcard, I can just return the drive and get my money back. I can either return it to circuit city within 14 days or I can return it directly to American Express using their 3 month return policy and get up to $250.00 back.

Which AMEX do you have that still does pricematch? I got rid of my "Blue" because they stopped doing the pricematch. It is too late for me to try this, but I would like to know for the future.

Can you reply back it you do, or don't receive the CC Gift Card. I work in the software biz, and one of the things I would spec in would be to do a final check on the transaction number to insure the item was not returned, etc before sending out the Gift Card. But, if you do get it, I will definitely keep an eye out for the next great opportunity for a CC PM with a GC in the process.
