Hesitant to watch Requiem for a Dream

I know, there has been tons of threads about this (but only about 1 in the last 40 days). Just saw it at Border's for $12 and deepdvddiscount.com or something like that had Pi and Requiem for $16. Normally, I would jump on a deal like this but from what people are saying, I'm almost SCARED to watch this movie.

When watching Schindler's List, I cried like a little girl towards the end because the movie was so damn depressing. Requiem, from what have been said about it, is both depressing and disgustingly morbid and the morbid part will probably bug me the most.

Nonetheless, I'll probably watch it anyway; but since I don't want to watch it alone, and since a friend said not to watch it with a girl, I'll probably watch it with my new college roommates. So just know know what to expect, how does Requiem compare to Se7en (hated it because it was so morbid), Memento (enjoyed the movie), and Schindler's List (so depressing)?

By the way, don't give away any spoilers!

Requiem isn't as "morbid" as Seven, I think you are under the impression that it's a lot worse than it actually is...

Requiem will make you never want to take drugs, ever. The last part of the movie is very depressing. At the end, you will think "WTF just happened?" Prepare to be stunned. It is very black.

it's a stupid boring movie. if you find such redundant facts as water is wet and sugar tastes sugary to be interesting then you might find this movie interesting too as it explains absolutely nothing new to anyone with half a brain.

awww... did you get scared while watching it?

the movie is depressing, though not nearly as much as Schindler's List, but is also very intense and shocking. I can almost guarantee that you'll stare blankly at your TV for several minutes after the movie ends (the final 20 mins. are quite amazing) 🙂
You should definately watch it at least once.

Nevermind that you already know drugs are bad (m'kay?), it's an excellent flick. Sure, it's depressing, but you're not going to jump off a bridge or anything afterwards (I assume). Watch it because Aronofsky is a great director. I find it more depressing than Se7en, Memento isn't even in the same genre IMO, and I actually haven't seen Schindler's List.

Which cut of Requiem did you get? The one I saw had some of the nastier stuff cut out. Regardless, for me, it was a very depressing and morbid movie.

Memento isn't even near that genre. I would say just watch it, you might not want to watch it again after the first time though.

the biggest sceme missing would be the rape scene with Marlon Wayans, IIRC.

I intend to get the Director's Cut and Pi at that deepdiscountdvd.com place. I've seen people compare it with Memento so I thought it was relevant...guess not.

yeah it's a difficult movie to stomach but i don't totally agree with it being depressing....i think this movie actually makes you appreciate life cos if there's no opposite as shown in requiem you wouldn't have happiness

specifically the ASS TO ASS scene

Ah, Requiem. Great movie, a bit depressing (or very depressing if you're the depressed type of person), brings out a very strong message. Best to watch it at night, in the dark 😉

Haven't watched Se7en yet, is it along the lines of Pi and Requiem?

Yeah... I didn't find it so much depressing as just weird freaky.... and cool in a weird and freaky way...

I just watched it this afternoon. I had heard stuff about it too and when you get like 50 mintues into it you're like "well this isn't all THAT bad" but then the last 20 minutes are just CRAZY FREAKY WEIRD and I guess in a way kinda depressing...

Basically its just a look at a 3-4 drugies lives.... think about how that would be and whether or not you'd be able to sit/stomach that

Yeah they cut some of the ass to ass scene to make it less graphic. I think they shoulda left it.

i haven't done drugs since i watched the movie earlier this year... i was never really hardcore into any of it but that movie opened my eyes a bit.

If you haven't seen the movie, before you get too grossed out, I'd like to point out that marlon wayans is not in the infamous "ass to ass" to scene.
