I'm playing it now, and loving it. The story, dialogue, and voice acting is horrible, but the gameplay is damn fun. It's HARD too, but i can't get enough of it! I've put in about 30 hrs so far, and i'm only on the second campaign.

I never played the other series either. I tried IV once, because my gf was addicted to it, but it's hard to really enjoy it when she's over your shoulder telling you what to do, so i never got into it. But this one has been damn fun.

story, dialogue and voice acting can make or break a game for me. it kills the immersion if the voice acting is off. it sometimes kills the fun factor when the story sucks.

Well, just look at the Civilisation series. No story but the gameplay keeps the addiction.

i played the demo and thought it was somehwat cool but i really didn't understand what i was supposed to do. plus i couldn't figure out how to get more units to help me fight so i kept losing.

i remember playing one of the older versions a long time ago (the 486 days)

I heard the game is much different than the demo as they took some months to clean things up from the feedback they received. I don't think it's released yet but I could be wrong.

The game has been out for a little while.

I try to play the demo but every version I download must be corrupt or something.
It always hangs at the beginning. Shame because I do want to buy it but after Doom3 I'm a little leary. Now I always play the demo or a friends copy first.

I didn't think it was out till the 23rd?

Anyway, I played the Demo. Might not be as fun to those who aren't a fan of the series, but it brought back a lot of good memories for me:) I will probably be picking it up no matter what the reviews are just because of that.

played demo a while back, unfortunately, my system is a little weak to run the game smoothly, so loading/saving/creating a new game was slow. I did, however, like the return to the original HOMM series (1-3), and did incorporate some features of 4 that were nice. It is hard to get used to, though, after playing 4 for so long.

All the new stuff is a little confusing, though (like abilities and spells); i still haven't learned everything yet.

All in all, if you're a fan or were a fan of HOMM, I would recommend you get this game once the price has dropped to 40 or 30 dollars (i dont think this is going to be a hugely popular game...)

The gap between demo and gold was far too small for this to be the case.
