Why not go back in time to 1 minute before, but freeze time instantly, do wait to be hit on the head. He may see the future, but I don't he can do anything when time is stopped.

So Papa absorbs powers, which may explain how future Peter proper Peter would have reversed the power and created a stalemate.

I think his power is to absorb other heroes' powers, similar to Peter/Sylar who are both his sons. Adam died when he absorbed his power because he is 500 years old.
