Hernia surgery patch lawsuit

I had a hernia surgery in 2000 and had infection from it and I am wondering if I could possibly consider suing on the Kugel Mesh Hernia Patch lawsuit.

Anyone know when they started using the Kugel Mesh Hernia Patch?

Well before 2000. My dad had one put in after his hernia, which was at least 10-15 years ago.

edit: im not sure if it was a 'kugel' mesh. It was some kind of mesh patch though, so i'll just assume it was.

I had hernia surgery in November of 2006 so I found it interesting to see the lawsuit stuff on TV (however I haven't had any complications so far)

I had to go back twice to have the 'fluid' drained off my incision.

It was right above my bellybutton so this was pretty disgusting...worried me crazy too.

Your first step should be to find out what sort of patch you have. It sounds like you don't know.

Second, was the infection a direct result of something related to the patch/procedure? Or was it just bad luck/a result of one of the risks of the procedure?

Yup...that's why I was asking here if they even used the Kugel Mesh Hernia Patch in 2000.

No idea about the time they used that specific patch, but infections usually are caused by the surgery/surgeon/patient itself, not the patch. If the patch broke open or something, that would be would be the fault of the patch.

Well...the problem with mine was no fault of my own.

Anyway, I was just trying to find out if they even used the Kugel patch in 2000 to decide if I needed to check into the lawsuit.

You're fishing to see if the hernia patch that currently is the subject of lawsuits was around at the time you had a hernia repair, hoping it might be the one you have so that you can sue for a minor complication that is a known risk of all surgical procedures?

Post-operative infection is a known potential complication of any surgical procedure, the acceptance of which you consented to when you signed that little thingy called a surgical consent. Particularly for implanted devices or materials like meshes, where infection rates are roughly double that of procedures where no implantable device or material are used.

Unless you can prove the implanted device was not sterile when it left the manufacturer or was contaminated by the hospital (or its staff and personnel), you have no claim.

The Kugel patches that are currently the subject of lawsuits were severely harming and even killing patients due to injuries like perforated bowels and systemic infection secondary to peritonitis.

Grow a pair and act like an adult. I'm betting you feel you're entitled to compensation because you had some pain after surgery, too. Ooo! Your wittle belly-poo has a wittle scar on it now, that's got to be worth some money (in fairyland). Boo hoo hoo

Go to the hospital & request a copy of your medical records, there will be a special sheet/section pertaining to "implanted surgical devices" used during your surgery, that will state specifically if they used this type of mesh.

You have no idea what I went thru ahole and I am not gonna oblige you with the story either.

Just asking a question. If you don't know the answer move along. Slur someone else here if you can find the opportunity to do so.
