CAIN: I support the 2nd amendment.

B: So what’s the answer on gun control?

C: The answer is I support, strongly support, the 2nd amendment. I don’t support onerous legislation that’s going to restrict people’s rights in order to be able to protect themselves as guaranteed by the 2nd amendment.

B: Should states or local government be allowed to control guns, the gun situation, or should…

C: Yes

B: Yes?

C: Yes.

B: So the answer is yes?

C: The answer is yes, that should be a state’s decision.

Blah... Without 2nd Amendment applying to the states then neither does the 1st, 4th or 5th, and suddenly you could have no rights at all.

There is ample precedent of incorporation of the 1st, 4th and 5th Amendments. 2d Amendment law is not as settled, though I would vigorously oppose any candidate who does not support incorporation of that amendment as well.

Seems you are reading to much into a simple yes. He was asked should states have the right to control guns. he said yes and even the SC agrees.

We already control free speach and allow the police to kick in your door if some guy in a black dress says its ok.
He did not say states should be able to ban guns and rip them from anybody that has one.

Stop watching fox and other dumb shit and try and think outside the overly sold flashy headlines.

I don't think any of the current R candidates can survive these extreme right litmus tests, because people who aren't mentally deficient cannot possibly score 100% on these teabag/evangelical/austrian psycho exams.

The 2nd Amendment is to be a limitation on the Federal government only. It's an issue the federal government should have absolutely no say on.

More often than not, the Supreme Court tries to make it a limitation on the states, but not the Federal government and it pisses me off. Scalia and Roberts should be executed for treason.

You almost have to feel for these guys trying to make it in politics.

No matter which way you answer any question asked, some group will find a way to be pissed off and disgrace you across the internet, or in tv commercials, etc.

We're not creating a political system where there are no correct answers to even simple questions, are we?

Google Fourteenth Amendment.

Shrug. Looks to me like he just made a statement for the 'states' rights' POV, a conservative position.

+1 as that is the conservative point of view at the federal level. If I were a state legislator, I'd never vote for any gun control as I'm a conservative anarchist, but the point is that it's not something the Federal government should have any control over, as the 14th Amendment perverts the original Antifederalist intent of the Bill of Rights.

Power should come from the county level, not the federal level. Each county should be independent, especially on issues of gun control.

I think you should give up on trying to teach him anything before you even start. Even telling him to Google something might get you into a situation where you're trying to educate that which is hopeless.
LOL I like Anarchist. He reminds me of Glenn Beck though, lots of research leading (sometimes) to WTF conclusions.

Pretty much. McDonald as I understand it established not that lower governments cannot regulate arms, but rather that the spirit of the Second Amendment applies to those lower governments just as does the remainder of the Bill of Rights. And personally I'm unhappy with the concept of states and cities having the ability to constrain any human rights beyond the level of the federal government. I think all Americans should have the same basic human rights all over the USA.
